Those reference photos are helping the both of us! I'm makling a SUPER DETAILED build on my next model and I needed these kind of photos for wiring and stuff.

And your doing a fantastic job, your skill with the lathe is incredible, I've been trying to learn with my grandfathers, but it takes time:P. Excellent job again.

That has got to be the height of insanity :screwy: .......

...... and at the same time the most fantastic thing I've heard in a while. It really is dedication to the hobby.

How on earth did you persuade the Mrs that it was a good idea? I really need powers of persuasion like yours :worshippy

The Volk Racing TE37 are being fitted as it now has standard rims, and I want the TE37, so it was part of the deal to add them on, from another that was for sale.

Your machining skills are awesome. All is soo clean. But, question, do you polish your parts that you turn?

Your Skyline is going to be the first Tuner that is a true masterpiece!

I say that because 1/12 scale is more of a museum type scale as well as your execution.

Wow, the car is looking better and better. The machined wiper controls on the instrument binnacle look great, but are you going to leave them polished or paint them the same colour as the rest of the dash like the real car?
The 'Skyline' moulding in the door sill also looks great - the 1:12 cars must really have some amazing detail. It is taking me back a month or so ago to when my best friend sold his immaculate 1:1 R32 GT-R. A sad, sad day that was....
Keep the photos coming! Have you decided on a final colour for the body?

Excellent job as always... It's been a while since I've read this thread and you get yourself a 1:1 car for reference? Wish I can do that, buy a 1:1 Lamborghini Countach Quattrovalvole as a reference for my 1:16th scale

Excellent progress Steve.

You buying an R32 GTR reminds me of the story by Mr Tamiya when they (Tamiya) were tooling their Jagermeister 1/12th 935 Porsche back in the 70's. They travelled to Germany to research the car, measure up, take photos the works. However, their research was restricted by the testing programme of one of the teams. They returned to Japan with 'blanks' in their research. So they decided to buy a 1:1 Porsche instead. They totally stripped it down and thoroughly researched it and produced the (now deleted) model.

When they had enough information to produce the model, they looked around them and the Porsche was in lying around in pieces and they couldn't put it back together again. So they had to get a Porsche mechanic (I think from Germany) to reassemble the car. When he arrived, he just looked at the mess before him and just couldn't fathom what they did to the car. He eventually manage to put the car back together again after about 2 months or something. The car now sits proudly in Tamiya's factory as part of their history.

I for one bought the kit as I was impressed by this story (as well as the kit).

Is the muffler and tip one solid piece of stainless? The heating effect is really killer. Nice job, but are you still using your custom exhaust piping, or kit supplied?

"real" heat staining!!!!!!!!
So when you apply heat with the torch, do you see the colors form within seconds, minutes?

Buying a car for reference LOL  That's crazy! I even think that nobody has ever done that before! Nice one Steve :D

I had a couple Fiero kits before I got the actual car, and the car is the ultimate reference for the kits now :D No more searching the internet for pics that probably don't exist. Fiero is alot cheaper than an R32 though!

I don't believe I missed this thread either! Looks just awesome so far, can't wait to see the finished product.
