Banter Thread Part 3 (Back with a Vengeance, this time its personal)

It's not that difficult, very time consuming however. I love working on my car just for the experience. I've done everything else to this car so I decided to just go ahead and try this. I fucked up a bearing though, so I've got to wait to finish until tomorrow. We just lifed the car with a couple of floor jacks and put some jack stands under it. I was only kidding about never doing it again, but next time it'll be for some better gears! I can help anyone who needs help with it now though, I think....

You've just got to take the wheels off to get the axles out and loosen this bar thing behind the front cover to let the differential slide in and out. Drop the drive shaft too, that's about all that needs done besides the rear itself.

oh man that sucks,do you have to have any special tools to do this stuff?

A big fuckin' hammer. No, not really. You will most likely need to have a shop press on some bearings on the pinion gear, but that's it.

how long did it take you? sorry about all the questions, i am deciding rather to do it myself or not.

This was my first time EVER attempting this with my dads help. We've spent about 5 working hours so far and have 2-3 hours left :/ We could have went a little faster but have been extra careful to not lose anything and we messed up a couple things so far and ruined a bearing I've got to buy first thing in the morning.

i was going to get a new gear install kit when i bought my gear, it comes with al the seals, bearings and clips and bolt and stuff. So what ever bearing i fucked up taking out, it would be replaced with a new one. And i looked at my rear end and it looks like it has recently been taked off, or new fluid in it cus where the gasket is it is really clean and you can tell a new one was put on.

You get some bearings with the install kit, but some will need re-used. The roller bearing whatever the fuck they are things will need re-used, that's what I messed up. It's not hard, just very time consuming on some parts like Formula mentioned. It took us forever to get some bolts off that were on there tight, we didn't have a big enough hammer one time, that wasted a bunch of time knocking out that pinion gear. Big tip, DO NOT forget that the ring gear bolts are left hand bolts, turn them the opposite way, don't do what I did haha.

The gears were whining so I decided to swap them thinking a ring or pinion would be bad in it. The part that bolts to the ring gear was cracked. I never imagined in a million years that's what was wrong with it, crazy stuff.

Depends on what kind of alcoholic you want to become and what your family history is. I've heard it all, my stepfather is a substance abuse councilor. Social alcoholic, full blown alcoholic, you name it I've heard about it. Does make life interesting.

i just started the last semester of my second year yesturday. i hate college. especially since im taking general classes. it like hs all over again. i'll probably jump on here during class too.

I am not looking forward to going back to college.

College was easy as pie..peach pie..with ice cream and a cherry.
Even the core classes were simple. And all the networking and language classes were f-ing easy.

I vaguely remember college, 15+ years ago. Yup, I'm old.

Age is how you feel. You can be in your 20s and feel like an old person. lol. I must be atleast 100 + years old....lol

I try to stay active. I ski, bike, dive, and hate sitting around the house. Right now I have new windows being installed, so I have to be here. I'm going nuts right now.:banghead:

I finally got the 3.42's done, they make a little bit of noise when I'm not in the throttle, but it's low on gear oil so I'll fix that tomorrow and everything SHOULD be done. Yay! Sooo much better than those friggin' 3.08's.

It was worth it and fun, but I'd never do it again. I really wish I would have bought 3.73's instead after all this work. I'm not going to go with 4.10's so.....Oh well, it was fun though.
