I have a car question not quite worthy of its own thread...

Is there any way possible that rain could make a transmission mount worse? I've visually checked it and it appears to be okay but it has all the symptoms of a busted one when I drive in rain.

I've got a new one ordered anyways, just asking. Thanks.

Vibration dampning.

I can't stand wood eating utensils so now wooden spoons for me. I also hate these friggin wooden handle knives my mother bought me.

666_speed
09-22-2006, 03:38 PM
I don't mind them. I try to not handle knives much anyways, at work they confiscate anything sharp from me. They've took a ton of razor blades away from me when they catch me playing with them. I always end up getting hurt on accident with anything sharp.

They have sporks in England?. I would think you guys are too civilized to eat a meal with a spork. Just us fat Americans will use anything to pile the food into our pie holes

Chopsticks are easy to use, just takes a little practice. Besides, its a great diet tool when you can only eat one grain of rice at a time.

no, i've never in my entire life seen a spork over here. not even with like a macdonald's salad, it's always a knife/fork/spoon in a pack.

Taco Bell is the only place around here with sporks.

skibum1111

Wow. No sporks. How do you manage over there? :lol2::lol2: Sporks are great, for those of us who are too damn lazy to pick up one of each you can eat yogurt and spaghetti with the same utensil. Not that I would recommend it.

now, on to the important stuff - torque wrenches. i'm thinking of getting one, and i've chosen Teng as the manufacturer. anyone have experience with Teng? they look quality and their price is reasonable for high-quality tools.

i'm thinking of torque wrench (~50-130lb/ft) 13-piece hand wrench/spanner set, 10-piece impact socket set and various couplings/extensions/etc..

skibum1111
09-22-2006, 06:24 PM
Are you planning on using the tools here in the states when you come over? If so, wait until you get here to buy them. The major vendors (snap-on, matco, cornwell etc.) have lifetime warranties on most of their hand tools. Buying them there and bringing them here could be a hassle for warranty issues. As for Teng, never heard of them before.

2.2 Straight six
09-22-2006, 06:30 PM
well, i'd be using them in the year i'm here, but i'd then bring them over with me.

skibum1111
09-22-2006, 06:36 PM
Check for warranty information. I'd hate for you to waste money, quality tools are expensive.

2.2 Straight six
09-22-2006, 06:41 PM
oh yes, very expensive. but i've chosen teng because they're good quality, good design, and a good price.

i would go with Snap-On but the prices give me heart problems...

FormulaLT1
09-22-2006, 06:49 PM
Matco or Mac for quality and price. Snap on for name (rep points) and quality (although you pay out the you guess what for them)

skibum1111
09-22-2006, 06:52 PM
One of my friends has a box full of snap-on, he spent $100k on tools so far and he's not done yet. I spent about $30k on mine, and I don't turn wrenches for a living

2.2 Straight six
09-22-2006, 06:54 PM
at the moment i'm getting the basics, socket set, hand wrenches, torque wrench, ractchet wrench etc..

i'm looking to spend maybe $500-700 at the moment. because that'll get me all the tools i need at the moment.

skibum1111
09-22-2006, 06:56 PM
How much are tools over there? I know in Canada the prices are different, depending on how the exchange rate is sometimes they are cheaper there, sometimes here.

2.2 Straight six
09-22-2006, 07:10 PM
the torque wrench i want is about $100US, the socket set is about $50 (i'm buying an impact-wrench set for strength and durability.)

He said pushups, not a heart attack :lol2::lol2:. Price isn't too bad. I bought snapon because the driver goes past my house every day, and he also lives 2 houses down from me.

Do you really have a whole garage full of snap on?. I went with husky, pittsburgh , lisle and craftsman (only to name a few) stuff only cause I couldn't afford the higher quality stuff. I have a few snap on speciality tools but thats only cause the snap on trucks was around and I was in a jam (plus when you add in shipping on some of the tools and the cost sometimes you are better off going local).

well, i like the look of these Teng tools. and they're in my price range too. so i'm buying them. and i always look after my tools, and i sure as hell aint lending them to people i don't trust. so i'm sure they'll last me well.

skibum1111

I just looked at their web site, they do look good. How are you planning on bringing them over here?

2.2 Straight six
09-22-2006, 07:57 PM
oh yes, i'd take them with me. my dad has a couple of socket sets of his own (from the sixties, and they're still just like new) i want to buy one of their mechanics' sets with lots of tool is a case, then buy the torque wrench and various little things seperate.

Be careful of the weight. Airlines here have put a weight limit on luggage, my dive bag barely makes it if I bring my heavy wetsuit. And shipping is incredibly expensive.
