We settled on $3750. I had it listed for $4K w/ a blown tranny, and we settled for $250 less. I am so happy. Its not even funny. At least its off my hands.

So the Cobalt is dead... I am experiencing the most crazy bullshit with it. It acts like the battery is dead, yet I have full power to everything and zero turning over when I try to crank it... :( I'm gonna get my moms car and try to jump it even though it has power to see if it's just not getting enough power to crank the motor... Nothing like waking up to deal with a headache. :banghead:

So get this... Chevy sticks the batteries in the trunk now but they have jumper posted under the hood still, right? Well apparently those jumper posts aren't worth shit. I tried jumping it and still got nothing so I started getting worried thinking the starter went out on it. I was about to give up and I decided to throw the battery charger directly on the battery for the hell of it. I put it on 12volt high start and the thing fired right up on the first try. It ran rough as shit though like it had a lumpy cam in it. I'm assuming the system didn't have enough of a charge still, so I shut it off and started it normally and it started. Now I have the charger on it trickle charging for a while. But here is what I'm wondering, why the hell would GM put jumper posts under the hood if you can't actually jump it or charge it that way? Or is there some sort of block between the battery and that which prevents me from charging the battery that way? Either way it should have still started when I tried jumping it that way... Ugh... Cars give me a headache sometimes with their dumb ass designs...

usually those posts will only allow for jump starting and not battery charging. BMW have a similar thing, you earth off the chassis and there's a live terminal either one a rocker cover (if it's a V engine) or between intake runners on the intake manifold. (if it's a straight engine)

I think the "Posts" were designed to allow people to jump start without fear of blowing up the battery. For the most part, they seem pretty useless. If you don't have a very strong charge going to/through them, they can't give you enough power. I am sure you have cleaned the connections right? If you have a bad connection you can have all electrical working fine only to have it all stop when you try to draw enough power to start the car. I've had more than one do this to me with loose or corroded connections. Everything looks fine when you connect it to the trickle charge as well.
Blackcrow64
03-13-2008, 01:22 AM
The connections were very tight and clean... I don't even understand why I wasn't able to jump start it through those posts but I was able to directly from the battery... What a cheap car... Oh well, at least it's running again... For now... :uhoh:

Are you kidding me? Was it in the street or in the driveway? I guess it doesn't matter either way, that's stupid.
But yeah, we have the open bottle law here too. But I think if you don't have the keys in the ignition, you can't really get in trouble. But if you parked somewhere, even in a parking lot with the keys in the ignition, even with the car NOT running and you are intoxicated. You can get a DUI or some shit like that. I don't drink and drive, so I don't worry about it.
