Hot car...I notice you got that photoblocker stuff on your license plate...good stuff. I'm not particularly fond of the spoiler, but to each his own. Congrats on the car, you'll love it.

Thx!:D

*Hey thourun thanks for the profile info man. I just changed it.

I went down to the mechanic today to get my car checked out and get a tune up. He noticed the engine has these short pauses when the car is idle. He told me that probably one of the valves isn't working properly, but only when the car is in idle state. When the car is on the drive the valve works totally fine. That also may be why my car shuts off when it's in idle state :(. He said it's not a really HUGE problem as to go about fixing it right now this very moment. He just told me to drive it like that until i gather up enough money for the labor, then get it fixed. It shouldn't damage anything.

Labor is really gonna cost a lot though because there's a WHOLE lot to do just to replace a valve. I guess i'll get that fixed within a month or two, but the car idle issue is really gonna be annoying. It doesn't do it from 1st gear though .... or neutral. The car has never shut off on me at a red light because of the idle issue. It tends to happen a lot in reverse though. I have to rev the engine so the car won't turn off. Wellllllll my car is at the car doc right now and i should get it back tomorrow. Besides that one valve, everything else is fine. He did say that it might just the spark plugs ..... and i SO hope that's it! lol

Dude I just fixed the same problem today, go read how I did it for about 10$ and in 7 minutes total in the damn these cars have idle problems thread. It's wicked easy, I had no idea what a throttle body looked like on the outside and I managed just fine. Even if thats not the problem it's a good way to restore some of the pep lost due to deposits of gunk in there.

Edit: Ohh and it's much easier to back up for those just learning the whole manual gig.

Well, my car is still at the doctor lol. I went to take a look at it today. The mechanic said it's going to be very expensive for a tune up because 3kgt's are really hard to work on ............ is this true? I don't want to get ripped off. I'll tell you guys the final cost of the tune up tomorrow, but how much should i expect? I had my air filter replaced, gas filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, pcv valve, and an oil change.

Hey Nitrogun I think this is not an off topic post. I'll bet you'd get more answers by starting a new thread. However I would call a dealer and ask them:"I had my air filter replaced, gas filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, pcv valve, and an oil change." I'll only charge you 2 cents for this info.lol

Thourun

I don't think it should cost too much what do mechanics make, like
$65/hr? Think about it that way, ask him how long it would take and then factor in the parts and you'll have a rough estimate of what you should be paying.

NitroguN, if you're getting a tune-up, shouldn't you be getting your timing belt replaced too? I think that's the hardest one to do....

NitroguN
08-05-2004, 01:41 PM
The car already has new timing belt, transmission, clutch, and flywheel :). Now hopefully i get my car within a couple of hours. Just hope i dont have too pay TOO much money.

water pump sonny, you need to check that

NitroguN
08-06-2004, 12:52 AM
Ugh i just thought about that today actually .... thx for the heads up young. How often do the pumps go bad on 3kgt's? Hopefully he's changed the water pump, i have to ask him. Wish i would've thought of that when my car was still at the shop tho sigh .... lol o well.

Nitrogen, I feel for you. I just bought a '95 3kGT last week. I'm gonna do the 60k tune-up as well just to be safe. I'm bracing myself for a few hundred. That's OK i talked the guy down $1250, so that makes it easier to bear.

youngvr4
08-07-2004, 12:40 AM
$1250 for what?

privatebean
08-07-2004, 12:41 AM
he wanted $8k for it, and it has a list of minor problems. I got him to come down to $6750.

08-07-2004, 01:44 AM
Yeah I love it. I just have a short list of problems to fix.

The biggest eye sore is the lexan headlights. Gotta sand them down and refinish them. http://i23.ebayimg.com/02/a/02/0c/9d/ec_4.JPG

Passenger window needs a new regulator. (maybe new motor)
The horn and power mirros aren't working.
The driverside power lock will lock the doors, but doesn't unlock them.(how annoying is that??)
I plan on taking out the factory radio and speakers (two are shot).
I already put a new shift boot on. (the second biggest eye sore, but easy 5 minute fix)
Replacing the headlights and foglights with Blue Xenon & Krypton HID Lamps.

After all that I can look into mods.

sLADe781
08-07-2004, 03:04 AM
privatebean, I know how you feel bro. I have a whole bunch of little projects to fix before I can start doing major modding too. The sucky thing is that I'm in college with loans so it's gonna probably be awhile. :(

privatebean
08-07-2004, 04:01 AM
Well i'm out of school, but i still got that loan problem myself...and it isn't gonna go away anytime before i'm 40. (i'm 25 now) But good luck with school and your projects. "Don't be a fool, stay in school"

Heh I was just down in Jersy yesterday! You have a nice drag strip there! I went to a concert and it was held at the strip which was cool. Couldent reccomend a mechanich since I'm from Mass. How many miles are on your new ride? I also have a 95 just hit 100k and bought it for 5900 a few months ago and I'm looking to sell it now before I go back to school.

08-10-2004, 12:45 AM
Okay, so I am once again at a "cross-roads" in my life. One more year before I graduate from college and I'm trying to figure out what to do. I really want to go to grad school but don't know how hard it is compared to undergrad. Anyone with any tips? The other thing that I'm "iffy" about is that I'll be going to a different school so I don't know how hard that school will be compared to my undergrad school. :o/

privatebean
08-10-2004, 10:22 AM
Slade,
Mostly what I hear about grad school is it isn't harder per se, it is just more volume. So if you are a motivated, organized individual you should be able to cope. As far as attending different schools...that would be a case by case basis. What is your field of study?

I assume you mean where the track is at?...I go to Atco Raceway in Jersey. You can do a search on Yahoo or something to find its webpage, with directions. As far as a mechanic, sorry, wish I could help but I don't know any in Jersey. You can try going to www.3si.org and going to their forums, they have some forums seperated by location in the USA, and you may be able to find some 3/S owners that live nearer to you and could recommend someone.

privatebean
08-10-2004, 12:01 PM
Yeah I know Atco. I grew up down there. I live about an hour or so north of there now though.

So dudes...i still need a new screen name. dsm97gsx is getting old and its not even what type of car i was and what type of car i like. So i need your help on a name.

Leave polotics in the polotics forum please. Other than that, I like names that have nothing to do with anything (eg Thourun). But if your into names that mean something keep it short and leave out the numbers and charicters, unles your going to talk about having a VR4 because thats a known name.

I have alwyas liked names that mean nothing since there are so many people that you can tell everything about them because thats the way they like their screne names. This particular name I made up for an online version of the Blizzard game Diablo 2 Lord of Destruction which owned my online life for a good 3 years...

Olympics! I'm a big fan of the games.

Great finish to the mens gymnastics last night and that 4X200 mens relay was as an exciting a finish as I've ever seen in swimming. The woman dominated the event last night with a world record performance. Great stuff!

How bout the World Cup qualifiers...anyone follow those? USA robbed Jamaica of the 3 points with a game tieing goal in the 89th min. Now I am all about the USA doing good, but they played horribly and in my opinion, didn't deserve that point.
