How much should a US Legal Skyline cost
I was wondering how much a US leagal '96 r33 skyline should cost? I found one with 41 k miles and has been stupidly converted to right hand drive, but I was wondering what a fair price for this would be.

First for what country. Second, Skylines were ONLY produced in right hand drive. So now i think we have a new leader for the noob of the year award.

I know that was a typo. I mean to say that it has been converted to left hand drive. And when I said US legal skyline I meant in the United States. Already here already legal, but not from motorex. From somebody who bought there skyline from motorex and is now selling.

Re: How much should a US Legal Skyline cost
If the car has been legalized once it shouldn't have to be done again. As far as getting it done, it can ONLY be done by MotoRex full stop. Prices vary depending on which model. R32, R33, R34.
What has to be done? So far NO one has ever come up with that. Trade secrete by MotoRex.

How much is too much??
I currently live and work in Japan. I currently drive a 1995 Skyline 2.5 GTS-T. It is a fast car
Don't get me wrong, I love this car, but I'm looking to upgrade to 33 or 34 GTR (V-Spec model). So, I am looking around in Japan for a good GTR or GTR V-spec.Current used car market in Japan (10/10/03). Normal (Stock - No modifications) 1995 33-GTR can be found fpr around 1,500,000 Yen to upper 2,500,000 ($1.00 = 109 yen as of 10/10/03). If you want a V-Spec model, you can expect to pay around 500,000 yen more. If you want a juiced up GTR?? Let me just say you can pay higher that what you pay at Motorex in the U.S. "BUT" you can pick up some awesome GTR(s). If you got the money!! I'm not sure if these vehicle would cost more to import in to the United States. (Some of you may know) I did find a 1995 33-GTR V-Spec / Top Secret tuned - according to the dealer, this GTR puts out 800 horses I can buy this one for 2,990,000 yen. I guess little less than $ 30,000.00 (FYI 20000 KM driven - how hard? who knows.)If you want a R-34's You can expect to pay around upper 3,000,000 for non V-sepc model. V-spec or V-spec II (or even M-spec) You can pay in the mid to upper 40K U.S. R-32's are cheap in Japan. You can pick one up for less than a 10K US. Condition and modification to the vehcile will change the cost of the vehicle. You can find some nice juiced up R-32's for less than 15K US. I'm not sure my blah-blah-blah will help answer your question, but I am thinking about buying and shipping GTR back to the U.S. (when I leave Japan). I guess I have to go to Motorex or RB Motoring to make it street legal? I think Motorex is charging TOO MUCH, (My opinion - no offense intended) but I guess you have to pay to play?? I hope Motorex will lower the cost of modification and price of GTR in the U.S. I'm sure Motorex will get more business if the services are little cheaper. If you ever have the opportunity to drive a GTR, (YOU SHOULD!!) You will fall in love and want to have one in your driveway or garage!! I'm hooked on the Sklyine and hope to have one in the U.S. (Legally). Last edited by Ska-G; 10-09-2003 at 09:38 PM. |

you'll have to consider how much this guy paid for the car, b/c the "worth" of the car may only be like 20k, but the cost that he paid included the cost of legalization, which is important.
you can't sit there and say, "the car is only worth 20k so that's what i'll give you" you have to consider what has been invested... if he paid 50k total for a legalized car, you won't be paying that, but you have to take into consideration the cost that he paid. also, consider the rarity, and that you'll be paying top dollar simply b/c it's a rare car... (i like how only 2-3 people in this thread are actually on topic) |

How much did he or is he paying for the GTR ?? 50K plus ?? I guess it is a GTR that can be driven legally in the US ? In next couple years, I will buy (in Japan), ship and convert my GTR in the US to make it street legal...... The total cost of the car and conversion, 50K may not be too bad ? I would keep my GTR, but if you are to sale the vehicle, you do not want to lose money on the deal. Total cost plus profit. Hummmmm. I guess at the end, it is up to the individual. What is the car worth to you? How bad do you want it? Me? I am hooked on GTR and I will have one in the US. |

there's no note in this thread about what the current owner paid, which would be nice to know.
yes, as he said, it's a US legal skyline gtr that he bought from motorex. |

Another thing you need to think about is did they convert it to left-hand drive correctly in other words does it look like it's been hacked together, or does it look clean and factory like.
I would say that making it left-hand drops the value alot though. Also find out if there are any upgrades like turbos, computer, internals, etc. thoes add value to the car. |

How much do you want to pay?
I've seen several US produced Lexus or Accord converted back to right handed drive. As far as I can see, it looks great. It is a kind of cool thing to have a "Lexus" logo on the grill of you lexus in Japan. Lexus is not called lexus in Japan, it is called Celsior and it is marketed under Toyota, not under Lexus. BUT we are talking about GTRs here!
I'm not sure how accurately you can convert the right handed drive GTRs into a left hand drive. Nissan did not export Skylines to US until the Infinity picked it up as a G35. (I think it is called G35. I may be wrong.) How do you find the parts for the conversion? Is it easy to do? How will the GTR drive after the conversion? In my opinion, left handed drive GTR would lower the value of the vehicle. I would keep it as it is. (Right hand drive.) If the vehicle has any modifications (mufflers, intercoolers, oilcoolers....... does it lower the value of the car?) Clean, non modified stock GTR with low miles seems to be little more expensive in Japan. I think it is the same in the US?? I just think it is too bad more GTRs are not available in the US. GTRs are becoming more affortable in Japan, I hope to see more GTRs in the states. If Mortorex or others can lower the modification costs, we could see more GTRs on the US roads. |

i would wager a 96 r33 that is streetable in the us with only 41k would be in the neighborhood of 25+g's. that estimation is based purely on the information given, and is extremely generous. if it costs any less than that, check for a salvage title or saw dust in the engine.
