Its not the engine that gonna cost you. Its the conversion to the OBD-2 ECU system that pushes the price so high. Basically the entire car gets rewired. Personally , I'd get an R33 for 1/3 of what a R34 would cost ($100K) or about $35K , or get an R32 , lightest of all the GTR's , and with the same motor and drivetrain , for about $25K.

Assuming you're talking about GTR's, R33's don't cost 1/3 of R34's...

R33's start at about $45K (not sure why the one Motorex has is $80K though), so it's more like 50% of a R34 (RB Motoring had a few R33's not too long ago) and I don't think you can get a R32 GTR for $25K, you could get a GTS for $25K, in fact Motorex has one available...

http://www.motorex.net/stocklist.html

Not sure why you would want a R34 without the engine, although (if I remember correctly) I read that Top Secret put a VQ30DETT into a skyline and I think they were racing it in JGTC or something like that...

And TopSecret has also put a RB26DETT in a Supra...
I'm talking about the Skylines that are already in the states that the original owners (thru Motorex) are selling. The prices plummet after the original purchase. I've seen R32 GTR's for $20K locally . And the 2 R33 GTR's I've seen locally were $35K.

Prices dropping? Maybe for ones that have problems as there are not many in the states that even know where to start as far as working on them.

The engine alone is a bastard thing to tune right.

I embarrassed a badly tuned R32 GTR at the local drag strip a while back , in my WRX wagon of all things. I ran a 13.9 , he ran a 14.5. And he was under the hood afterwards when I walked over to talk to him , the engine was making some horrible clattering noises. Not like a rod , more like lifters.

i'd sure like to know about these 2 R33's that are for sale locally. give some info, unless your just full of it.

as for your actual topic, i wouldn't suggest trying to get a R34 without a motor. That's a bigger pain in the ass then you want to deal with.

That was quite a while back...like last year. I'm sure they are gone by now. Both were owned by the same guy. One was Midnight Purple Pearl with R34 rims...beautiful car.

If you don't wanna believe me , thats fine. Its not like I'm claiming to own one or something. Seeing 3 or 4 of them locally does not make me special in any way. I simply state fact.

That's sad. I managed a 12.88 with only exhaust and pods on a slippery track. I would say it sounds like he has a set of custom turbos which the compressor and turbine wheels don't match.

Some people just shouldn't own a nice car unless they pass a competencey test aye.

Yeah , I was totally expecting him to walk on me...badly. I'm a big fan of the R32 in particular and am well aware of all the R-series capabilities. If it weren't for Motorex basically having the monoploy , I would own one. I am just not willing to pay double-triple the original cost , unfortunately. I'm jealous of you guys that can get cars like that for what I paid for my WRX.
