How much should a used VQ30DE engine cost?

If I wanted to buy a 1995-1999 nissan maxima complete engine with wiring harness and ecu (under 50,000) how much would I have to spend? Any ideas where I could find out OUTSIDE OF EBAY?? I got ripped off for $500 on one already by some guy in Florida.

yea thats a thread i put up on the org, how much a rebuild would cost me to get done and how long it would take. a couple of ppl replied that it would jus be easier to get a low mileage engine with like 30-40k or so on there. wat you all think? cuz i dont have the balls to tear into my engine like that, or an alternate means of transportation

that's the shitty part of having an engine like ours. the average person can't do things like that to it. old cars weren't exactly easy but were much easier to tinker with

a low mileage or rebuilt engine will run you as low as $2200, or as high as $3500..just a tip, if the engine seems strangely underpriced, it's for a reason, and don't be fooled. it's the most important thing in your car, and less isn't necessarily better in this case!!!

Will you get any performance increase if you port polish and clean a new engine or is port polishing just good for older engines?

Rebuilding a Max engine should cost around $1,500-$2,500

I personally think it would be better to just drop in a fresh 4th Gen motor with under 50,000 miles on it. When you rebuild an engine it doesn't go back to 0 miles... people have to remember that. So if you drop a newer motor in with 50k it would probably be better for you than if you paid out the ass to have it rebuilt. Parts alone to rebuild are probably around a grand. Also, most junk yards have 1995-1998 Maximas and they will sell you the engine and pull it out for you for around $1,000. I found 3 different places with one in NJ. One place told me that they had a 2001 Maxima SE that had been in a rear end collision. The odometer read 24,500 miles and that they would sell me the 227 hp engine and pull it out for me for $1,200. They also told me that I would get a startup warrenty. When I went to the Nissan dealership and asked abotu buying a new one from them, I was quoted $7,800.
