Change Engine Oil Light

The change light stays on for about 2 minutes after starting the vehicle. The problem is not due to oil needing changed, (had that done.) I know how to reset light after oil is changed. Also the airbag light will not go off. Any chance these two being related?

Re: Change Engine Oil Light

NO they are not related!! SOmetimes resetting the light will stop it from coming backl on. And I would bet your airrbag light is caused by a bad connection on the seat belt pretensioners.

Change Engine Oil Warning Light

After tou have changed the Oil in a 2000 Pontiac Montana to get the warning light to stop appearing do the following.

1. Put key in ignition and turn to the Run position. (Do not start the vehicle though.)

2. Press gas pedal 3 times in less than 5 seconds.

3. You are done, the light should not come on until the next time it is due to be serviced.

well,

i have the same problem with the oil change light coming on as soon as the van is started and staying on for a minute or two. this time, i changed the oil before the light came on and stayed on. this time i have tried to reset the light numerous times without success.

i was always able to reset it in the past after changing the oil, but not this time...should i have waited to change the oil until the change engine oil light came on and stayed on all the time?

any ideas on how to reset it at this point?

those instructions are correct. When you do this, the oil light should blink or go immediatly out on the dash (all other lights will still be on if the key is in the "run" position but not started as it should be for this to work.) I had to do it 2 or three times on my lumina for it to work. Make sure you press the pedal all the way to the floor three times in a row in less than 5 seconds though...

Re: Change Engine Oil Light

I. With the ignition key in RUN but the engine off, repeatedly push the trip/reset button until OIL is displayed on the Driver Information Center (DIC).
2. Once OIL is displayed, push and hold the
trip/reset button for five seconds. The number
will disappear and be replaced by 100 (indicating 100% oil life remaining).
3. Turn the key to OFF.
If the change engine oil message comes back on,
the engine oil life monitor has not reset. Repeat
the procedure. 2002 montana owners manual

Re: Change Engine Oil Light

Mine is a 2000 so it doesn't have the oil life display. The procedure in the manual is not clear. It doesn't say whether you have to depress the pedal while the chime is sounding or not. I have found what works on mine:

1. Put key in ignition and turn to the Run position. (Do not start the vehicle though.)

2. Press and release gas pedal 3 times in less than 5 seconds while the chime is sounding.

3. Start the engine...if you turn the key off like the manual says it will not reset....This after ~100 tries. I HATE THE OIL CHANGE LIGHT!

I have a 2000 Montana as well as my neighbour. I usually reset his oil light for him. I have 58000 miles on mine and cannot get the light off anymore. I have tried over 100 times. I would like to disconnect it permanently!!!!! GM did not a very good idea when implementing this feature at all.

I have also Montana 2000. My exprience is this. Make sure it is on RUN possition not on start possition. If you see your engine icon you are in start possition. Run possition you can only see brake light and trany indication light. that's is what noticed on my Van. I hope it works on your Van and your neighbour. Good Luck!
