04 Impala LS. Change engine oil light, and i just changed oil!
Heres the story.
Every 3000 miles i change my oil. Midas ran a special so i took the ol' Impala up there for a 12.99 oil change. I use conventional, they threw in synthetic. Problems so far with vehicle. Servo motor has gone bad, no speedometer. Check engine light was on for P Thermostat(error code) and for some air sensor, i replaced the air sensor. I drove the car with the check engine light on for the thermostat for about a month. The engine coolant temp was about half of what it normally should have been. It was not heating up normal, but i figured as long as it was cool and not over heating i wouldn't have problems. 2 nights ago i changed out my thermostat, flushed my coolant, put in the prestone 50/50 and did my best to 'burp' the cooling system. The thermostat is working great, vehicle is operating at normal temp according the the needle on the dash. NOW the problem i ran into was last night. I was driving my vehicle for about 2 and half hours going about 60-70 mph the whole trip. Now when i stopped to get gas i turned the car off and then back on my message center i got a "Engine Oil Level Low" I checked my engine oil on the dipstick and it was at normal levels. Car was still running fine. So i drove home and parked the car in the lot and went to sleep. I just ran out there to check my engine coolant level and my oil. Took the cap off the radiator and the reservor started pumping coolant into the radiator, there was not much of an air bubble in there maybe 3-4 seconds of coolant ran into the radiator and then it started overflowing. So i put the cap back on. Checked the engine oil and it was 1 notch low on the dipstick. So i poured in some conventional(thats all i had) oil to bring the oil level up to normal on the dipstick. I start the car and now my message center displays the message "Change Engine Oil". Check engine light never went out after i changed the thermostat either. The RPMS went up, while the car was started and in park, to around 1500-1700 for about 10-15 seconds then slowly started to drop down to around 1100-1000 rpm. I checked the dipstick while the car was warming up and the dipstick had oil all the way up the stick. Like i was 2-3 quarts OVER. I mean normally my car starts at around 1000 rpm and then as it warms up it drops to around 600-700 rpms. That is normal to me. My change engine oil light doesn't pop on after i get the oil changed, that is normal to me. Low oil light has never popped on for me. And the only thing i did was flush radiator and change the thermostat.... so i am at a loss and i HAVE NO MONEY to take it to a shop.... Any help guys?? |

Checked the oil engine running, why? Reset the oil change lite after every oil change either in the dic or by stepping on the gas pedal key on engine off, 3x in 5 secs it will flash and reset, re- bleed the system also. I hope you got all the dexcool out when using conventional green, that could be an issue over time.

Re: 04 Impala LS. Change engine oil light, and i just changed oil!
Well, now every time i start up the impala it starts idling at around 1500 rpms. What the hell? I don't get it. My check engine oil keeps popping up and i just changed it less than 1000 miles ago (my original post on this thread).
The oil level keeps dropping but i can't seem to find any leaks, there are no puddles or dripping of oil under the vehicle. I smelled the exhaust and sometimes it smells like it's burning rich, the other night it smelt almost sweet (LIKE ENGINE COOLANT) BUT i keep checking the dip stick for milky white oil (signal of head gasket failure and the mixture of coolant and oil) but there is no milky coloring.... wow... and i read somewhere that these motors were in the top 10 motors to have in your vehicle a couples years ago... |

Is it the oil change reminder or oil level? If oil level lite is on and it is actually low then then lite is doing it's job, if it is not low then the oil pan level sensor is bad. How much oil are you using, are you loosing coolant? And what engine is this? For the high idle a scan should be done.
