Yeah this baby is pretty ridonculous. I honestly don't have time to read this entire thread but I've been impressed with what I see so far. Keep going Mike!
Thanks Garret. Im working on it now, Im working on the cross members. What was that tip you had on getting epoxy to dry faster and stronger? I didnt quite understand, you said silica powder, is that like baby powder (talc)?

Probably no body work until June, sorry. I have to get this chassis going, and I have lots of stuff to worry about with school finishing up this month. Once I get the engine things will start to get intresting.
Thanks for the congrats guys.

Sorry I don't post more in here, and don't encourage you enough... this thread is very long, however, and (understandably) slow to progress so I only check in on it on the weekends.
It's nice to see that you're getting it underway, with the chassis bits coming together quite nicely. A journy of 1000 miles begins with a single step, eh? Question usually is, which step? Anywho, I sort of have a suggestion for keeping you motivated. You should accumulate the parts you are going to use for it, the wheels, the engine, interior bits and whatnot. a project of this scope can get frustrating and bog you down at times (for example, in the frame). Instead of stopping construction until you are better, having something else to work on (like an engine) of different material and process can calm you down, without losing time on progression. I know we would all ideally do it in a certain order, but our moods are fickle and do not always allow that.
Anyway, I'm very interestedly and eagerly awaiting all and any progress that comes our way. Keep it up! Don't get frustrated, and don't get flustered about a lack of comments sometimes.

I understand its a long thread, and is a pain to read through it all.
Thanks for the comments. It is a very slow process. Extremely slow process. I am working on accumulating multiple parts. I need the rims and engine badly.
I should have more progress later today. I have gotten pretty far since the last pictures. It wont seem like it, but its a lot of work. I might be able to prime the right side tonight.
Thanks for the comments once again.

UPDATES:
Filled in the C-Channel with Bondo. The plans for the metal on top wasnt going to work so well. I needed some 10Ga steel and the welders for a nice strong hold. So I Bondo'ed it. Worked rather nicely, I just primed it. Im pleased with the look so far.

Whats new?
As of now I am on bug patrol. Theres a big ass bug with nine million legs running around, and Im jumpy as hell now. Not to mention he has two big stingers coming off his ass. Wheres my shotgun when I need it?
Besides that big ass monster running around, I have started the other side of the frame. I should be able to get it bondo'ed today if Im lucky. The current side of the frame has been primed and a few holes are being filled, then it will be re-primed.
Any more comments?

I'm not going to walk down in my shop without a .45. Hes so damn agile, I'm running around the shop trying to kill him. Hes like Neo, from the Matrix, he dodges my every smash.
Worst part is, is hes around my paint booth and where Im working. :banghead: Nobody can figure out where this thing is, or what it is.

Thank you. I cant wait to get the frame done either. What I primed last night I am very pleased with. I should be able to get the two rails together tonight.
Im still waiting for the motor, rims, and tires though. I really need that motor soon. The progress on the frame will stop after recieving the motor to build, and fabricate the tranny so I have clearences and final cross-members put in the correct place.

The new sig, yea. I think its much better than my last. The old one I just wipped together in 5 minutes in Photoshop. The new one is animated. I figured with it being animated, and "trippy" it might lure people in. I hope it works because I need all the support I can get.

How detailed are you going to make the chassis? I'm curious to see what treatment you give the crossmembers and their supports. I always like the way chassis for these old cars look, two beefy rails with an almost delicat looking network between tham. That will be a treat to see, once you've got the chassis done. Detail on the chassis, not really sure. I would like a very clean look with some detail. I dont exactly know as of now. I kind of shootinf from my ass on this one.
After checking AF I'll be on to finishing up the main bondoing of the left rail.

Check, check, check. I will have all of those. The fuel lines will be silver blind cord. It represents braided hoses really well. I will probably fabricate the fuel cell out of 24Ga.- 16Ga. Steel. I need to find a good looking gas cap.

I dont think he realizes the date, I dont exactly know. Or maybe its because I jokingly say "Hey Josh, go bump my thread its four posts down, haha".
As far as this studying thing you just mentioned. I am unfamiliar with this word "studying". Its Drafting/Architecture we hate the teacher, therefore we hate the class. Also our teacher is an idiot, he teaches a class about CAD/CAM and doesnt know how to use the damn program. He thinks it takes 4 weeks to draw a house in AutoCAD when it takes me 2 1/2 days. Therefore I just toy around for the rest of the 3 weeks on AF or drawing rims on CAD.
Its funny when he comes around and sees a big rim in 3D, man that pisses him off. He comes up to my computer and says "Mike, quit drawing wheels and get back to work". So I quit drawing rims and started designing stuff for the hot rod which has mysteriously vanished. I can not find it at all on the network.

I will build a huge plexi display case for it. Keep it in my room, or office. Possibly sell it if someone like Chip Foose, or Boyd Coddington offered to buy it, being that it is a similar body to that of a Boydster/0032 and 32 Ford.

Is 50grand enough? There's no way I'd sell this. After all the work thats being put in it, I couldn't let it go for a few grand. That's BS! Mike you damn well better not get rid of it for less than 50grand!

50 G's hahaha
if he was to sell it, i would figure the cost of supplies it took. for the labor of it...well hours X amount an hour. then add it up. so far looks like he is putting a good amount of cash into ti, and hours .

at this rate of work you have going it will be estimated 3 months or so of work to even finish fab. it is great you are spending the time on this. cant wait to see more chassis parts and the motor in. after the fab fo the chassis the body should goes easy just build around it
Thanks Bryce. It will probably take a majority of the summer. The chassis should be rolling, with motor, by Mid-June. Fabricating the body is a lot easier said than done.

I know, lots of sentimental value. I would make them hire me first. After I finish I will send pics into Rod and Custom or Hot Rodder Magazine as a readers ride, they may want to do an article on it too. Wouldnt that be great, talk about publicity. Then talk about being set for life...hopefully. Thats why I am making it so perfect.

I have been keeping a log of hours put into it, but my mom through it away dammit. I need to start a new one. So far there were 126 hours into it (NOTE: Hours are for HotRod II project, not the failure of HRI)

UPDATES:
The left rail is near completion. In the background of the pictures you will see that the other rail is completed.

However after priming I noticed one of the angles was off. If you look in the top picture towards the back of the frame; the angle that looks like it is supposed to go up a 46degrees is actually at 40degrees, so it needed to be but in two and readjusted. It turns out it was off by .75mm causing the 40 degree angle instead of 46degrees like the other rail.
All said and being done it is being reepoxied right now. This was an unexpected set back that will set me back almost a day. Tommorrow instead of tonight the rails will begin to be joined.

I'm not going all for highest number of replies, but I would like to know if someone sees something wrong, or doesnt look right, or just comments about it.
What you see right now is what I have. One rail complete, the other 90% done.
Next the two will be joined.

My time log.

Much better now. If I had gotten to body fab I would need to start about 75% of the project over. Im glad I noticed it.

Thanks for the comments to all!

Hey guys,

Whats new?
Everything is going pretty smooth as of now. I just primed the left rail again after filling some minor spots. I was able to get the four main cross-members cut. Then I did a mock up, and I must say I am very please. I will try to get some mock up pics tonight at least if nothing else. This is one of my favorite things about building from scratch, seeing pieces of raw metal come together. Its quite satisfying, and fascinating.
