This thing is awesome!

I'm sure it has been asked before, but I'm too damn lazy to read the whole 64 pages of this thread: How big will this thing be when it's finished?

Overall size should approach nearly 30" (75cm).

Looks nice but I still think you make all of this much harder than it has to be. The finished product will be fantastic, no doubt, but man, the road there is going to be very tough - much more so than it needs to be.

Thats me! I always do that...dont know why, just do. Plus Im a stubborn bitch.

Now, now I need all of your help. I need some mockup wheels/tires, but I cant find any cylinders to use as a base. PVC isnt even close to the correct size. If its close I can use styrene to make it correct. The rear dia is 3-7/16".

Any suggestions will help!

The rear dia is 3-7/16".

Please Mike, use metric for gods sake! For everyone who isīnt familiar with the "inch-system" thats about 87 mm, I think (after some calculating...). Does the wheel have to look and be able to work as wheels? If not then try to use a regular 1,5L coca cola bottle, its a bit concave in some places but I think you could use the part where the label is.

Ahhh, sorry about the english "shittiest idea for measuring" system. I designed the whole car in english, which most of my models are metric.

Excellent idea of the coke bottle! I just need some round circles with a hub (made out of styrene) to rest them on the spindle. Later on I'll have wheels machined.

Lots of work, lots and lots of work. And lots of pounding. I hope it turns out well, still have a very long way to go.

I need to find some one with a planish hammer to smooth out those bumps, sadly the metal shop I work at over the summer is 1000miles away and has one. Then I will need to find a bit for it.

Thanks for the reply to my Halo project. Your project looks cool. I know that all the hammering is hard work but maybe its therapeutic as well. It would be for me (keep me from pounding stupid Insurance Adjusters). Anyway, is it possible to sand down a block of hard wood into the shape of a planish hammer and use it as a "head" for your conventional 3lbs sledge?

Good idea, I'll probably use maple. For my Pneumatic P-Hammer, I will be building it and an english wheel.

Thanks!

Been awhile since I've updated. I apologize for the lack of updates. This project has to be the slowest project on AF. Waiting for parts, or something of the nature. Plus a lack of motivation lately.

So heres the update, started making the diff cover out of 22Ga 1020 steel. It will hold the mounting brackets for the IRS linkage. I'll weld it up tuesday. In the pics below I have the pieces just stacked on each other without the spacer that will be put in.

http://mike.nwwo.com/XVIII/DSCF0008.JPG
Four seperate pieces. The holes in the bottom left are where I will weld a detail piece on from the inside so there isnt a giant bead to grind off.

Enjoy, leave some feedback. Its required by AF rules. :icon16:

Its actually 1/8 car but the back wheels should be around 1/6th and the wheels are very nice. I saw them at WalMart for 56.00.Maybe those wheels can also be used for the 1/6 Monster garage R/C Cars like the willys. The " Muscle Machine" makes that Car. Its a 57 Chevy.

UPDATES:

Man...oh man. This project is the most annoying, frustrating, painful, bitchy, and depressing model ever. Last night was about to go nuts. I was working on the front cross member, and I miss drilled a hole...so that is now scrap metal. Seriously...this is an annoying as hell project right now. Its all stupid busy work that doesnt really seem to be going anywhere right now. Motivation is at an all time low right now. Once this project takes a path of nearly getting a rolling chassis, I might be more motivated. Right now, its just frustrating. I hate doing things twice. [/rant]

What I did get done last night was bending the control arms. Now I've gotta' weld some tubing to 'em and stuff. So on and so forth...

Meh...try to enjoy.

Dig those plans! How are you bending the tube? The bends look great.

This has been very impressive so far. Sorry to hear that you're so bored with it. I for one am fairly amused that you insist on doing everything the long, tedious, difficult way, and then complain about every bit of it. Your progress isn't particularly slow for a project of this scope, and the work looks top notch. I'm glad to see you back to doing what you're good at, you know, welding and complaining.

Dig those plans, though, man, dig 'em!

Isn`t this the problem with every project when you scratchbuild a lot of it; It`s frustrating to only "make parts" and it doesn`t seem to go anywhere? But when the project has gotten to the rollingchassie-state, that`s when the motivation get`s a kick?
Anyway, im very impressed by your project ( and your decision to get it finished, even when inspiration is lower than a lowrider with a flat tire..)
Keep it up!! The world is full of "lost interest"-models already!

Thanks for the inspiration guys, and motivation. Last week I was at a real low, threatening to just quit. Willimo, and a few others had known about the decision. However, after talking with some of my metal shaping buddies they suggested I continue it for the better of my career. Another knows some people and can get my name out there should I choose to finish it.

I decided to pickup a new motor while they were on 50%. Im building a ford, so I wanted to use a ford. My first plan was to convert the Hemi into the Ford 427, but two months later the Ford 427 made its way into the stores. Figures. Yadda-yadda yadda, here are some pics.

http://img12.exs.cx/img12/5378/dscf001300026nc.jpg

http://img12.exs.cx/img12/2868/dscf001500023gk.jpg

Today I welded up a new jig that holds the frame at ride height, and it also holds some wheels mockups. This means that I will now be starting the foam buck. A buck is used to make templates off for steel. I am also using the buck to come up with the design. After talking with they guy that is going to help me get me name out there, suggested that I be unique. Therefore the design is altered a little.

Sorry for all the reading. Theres nothing I can take pics of except for the motor as of this moment. Once again, I really appreciate the comments. When I am low, you bring me up. When I mess up, y'all dig me out. When I'm pissed off...well, its usually best to duck low. :cwm27:

29.99, plus the Hobby Lobby 50% off, ended up being only $15. If it was $2922, I think I would go out and buy a full scale 427. Hobby Lobby has really weird illegible price tags sometimes.

I also forgot to add that I will be converting the motor to EFI for the nice clean look. If it were muscle I'd keep the carbs...and the hemi. So an EFI conversion will follow latter.

UPDATES:

The past couple days I've been sick and stayed home from school. When I didnt feel like shooting myself I worked on the 1/6 a little. I started work on the mockup floor pan. Still needs a little work. Then I will add some polyurethane foam on top of it and carve out a mockup of the body. This will be the basis for my templates for the steel body.

The mockup floor pan is now complete...I think. The next step is to start adding some foam to it. Then start working on a front pan sort of deal. A 1/24 on the pan to give y'all an idea. The body pan makes it look larger than the frame did. Sorry for the blurry pics. Its raining out so there is no natural light. :(

Oh, Builder, I used paper and masking tape for a basic template, and then some posterboard. After that I traced it on to posterboard.
