$90 Styrene $10 Glue $10 bolts/nuts $5 on a tap $30 order about to be place for bolts $20 on putty $3 on brass rod Total of $178USD so far.I'll probably spend another $100 in styrene soon. Scratch building ain't cheap. :cwm27:
Thanks for all the comments guys! Of course, I forgot to bring my camera to school today. :(

Worked on the upper control arm. Unfortunately I have no progress pictures. But not to fear, I will post some for the lower control arm to show how it was built.
I like my projects to be very clean and smooth lines that are not obstructed by bolts and nuts. I took this belief directly to the control arms. The shocks mount in the middle for a very clean look.
http://mike.nwwo.com/ACEIII/XII/DSCF0002.JPG
http://mike.nwwo.com/ACEIII/XII/DSCF0005.JPG
To make the design of the control arm smooth and unobstructed I built it entirely as one piece at first. Then cut out the middle piece as seen above, and it bolts together. The bolt is sanded flush with the control arm so once painted it will not be noticed and will leave people wondering how the shock was mounted.
http://mike.nwwo.com/ACEIII/XII/DSCF0010.JPG
http://mike.nwwo.com/ACEIII/XII/DSCF0013.JPG
The bolt is still removable but requires a special technique and tweezers. I like to create an original design to this model instead of using other basic off the shelf parts. I am very pleased with the result and how hidden the bolt and the removeable tube are.

Love how the bolt is sanded flush.
So will the upper arm have the same hidden shock mount, I'm confused how the shock mounts will be hidden.

If I do, I'll tell ya, but don't hold your breath. Honda folks tend to like to get things done more than they want to look all pretty.

Thanks for the kind remarks. The 1/6 scale version was all steel, estimated to weigh about 40-50lbs. The 1/12 is all styrene and will probably weigh more like 5-10lbs.

Been busy getting college prep stuff out of the way, so finally heres an update. Plus I got burned out on it. Engine cradle jig has been built to create the engine mounts, two tubes have been mocked up for the drive shaft and axel, a mock up shock has been built for measurements (no pics currently), and another control arm is being built.

11-01-2005, 06:44 PM
Awesome as usual Mike! But why have you leaned the engine so mutch backwards? keep it coming
mike@af
11-01-2005, 07:40 PM
To answer everyones question about the engine rake, its a normal rake for a rod. Most street machines, and hot rods have an engine rake of 6°, which is the exact way mine sits. Some of the pictures it looks fine, others it looks way off. Its the angle that the pictures were taken. As the build progresses and has a body wrapped around it, it will look a lot better.
However, looking at the pictures again, I think it shifted while I was taking the pictures. I may change it to a 3° rake which is a lot less, and probably a little smoother for a show car.
This is why I post up, to get everyone's opinion.

Keen Eye Will. The shock goes in and out so I can adjust the length. When I was taking pictures I had previously compressed the shock to determine travel.
Thanks for all the comments!
