The Fastest you've driven?

Im 14 (almost 15) and my dad usually lets me drive when we go out to the relatives in SD (roads out in the middle of nowhere with no cars on them) and i popped up for a hill in our stock '04 Infiniti G35X and decided to punch it. i got up to 90 before i started chickening out. Im only 14 lol i dont wanna go any faster. True story, i dont lie.
On the way to SD in our G35X my dad had her up to 143, before she startes slowing down do to the governor. So we slowed it down because a tractor was up ahead.
My dad probably has the record on here for fastest though. Unless anyone has hit 190mph. He never told me until we were out in SD (with the relatives) and my uncle and everyone was talking about cars and stuff, then he asks my dad, "Kirk, how fast have you hit on your Hyabusa?" And my dad kinda stutterd for a minute abecause iw as right by him and then he goes "I'v burried the needle" Which is at 190-200. But they are governed to 19, they dont react that fast so you can usually pop up a couple of mphs before they slow you down. And that was on our 2001 Suzuki Hyabusa 1300-R. (Crazy fast, 1.5sec for o-60)
Our 2000 Chevy Silverado was 98mph (governed)
And our 2003 Chevy Trailblazer LTZ will do 112mph (governed)
My sisters boyfriends Scooby STI got up to 120 when he was trying to show my dad what the car could do.
The 97 Larson Speedboat tops out at 63mph (fast for a boat)
My Arctic Cat ZR800 will do 120mph
and the Arctic Cat Firecat F7 will do about 110mph.
I have got all the states, i dunno where i get them from. I did 101mph on my ZR800, thats it. my dad has gone faster
You may think my dad sets a bad example for me (my mom thinks it) But im too chicken to do much over a 100. Plus he only does it in the safest areas. And always has these talks with me about how stupid it is lol. Just figured i'd share my 2 cents

i was on a drive to my school for a gala, only me and a friend in the car, and i was cruising at 220kph (137mph) for a long time, then i decided to slow it down to 160, then got a ticket lol. the cop was a nice middle-aged motherly looking woman, she was nice and dropped it to 130kph, 30 over, so i could tell my parents that i lost track of my speed and wasnt using cruise control.

Alrighty, Im gonna be straight up. The fastest Ive driven was 90. But considering that was in my 95' Grand Cherokee, which tops at 112, it is rather fast. So, yeah, nothing spectacular. BUT, I have been in the PASSANGER SEAT on 100+ runs at least thrice.
-2001 Ferrari 360 Modena F1 coupe (F1 tranny w/ paddle shift, it was red of course) on November 24, 2003 in LA. The driver was my dads cousin who was a professional racer in the 70's and 80's (CAN-AM for in a Porsche, then 911's in Porsche races). He was driving on suburban streets by the way. He took it up to 3rd gear which equates to about just over 100. If it were on a highway, then we woulda hit 150 easily.
-(G35x you'll know what I'm talking about) The other was in my friends hoopty, I mean ricer, 94' Integra. He did 100 on the straight on 212 between Eden Prarie and Edina (going towards Edina, which is my city of residence, EP is G35x's). At which point I asked him why he would try that on a stretch that is always crawling with cops. That, and he had an outstanding warrent for his arrest. Picking a crappy red Integra with sick rims out isnt hard. But he wasnt caught. If he had, well let me say, it wouldnt have been much better for me either...
-Last one I can remember was in my friends Jeep (Identical to my 95'. Only mine has tinted windows, Infiniti Prem. sound system, power antenna, and a new (IMO) siiiiick mesh grille insert I made myself). He did 100 also coming from Eden Prarie. Scary is all I can say.
Thats all I can think of, although Im sure there are more. But I cant get a ticket for 6 months cuz I'm on probation. So no attempts to beat my record...

I really pity all the guys living in countries with speed limits. :p
I've driven 220km/h (137mph) in my Opel Vectra B 2.0 on (at?) the Autobahn without a problem.
But when I was a kid, my father had a Mk. III Supra that was really fast, up to 240 or 250 km/h. I really miss that car :(

145 mph in a rented Volvo S70 driving from Paris to the Normandy Landing beaches. In case you're wondering, they do have speed limits in France. Only place in Europe that doesn't is the Autobahn. It still had more left but I didn't want to end up in a French prison.

not sure how fast i was going but im going to say 115 in my 91 rolla, damn that was scary loaded down with about 400lbs of newspapers, motor was screaming. NOt sure in my blazer friend said we were doing 110 my speedo stops at 85 but it was leaned the fuck out doing 4700 rpm on the tach considering it redlines at like 5200 motor was running hot for a little while.

Took a 2002 Mustang GT 5 speed for a test drive when they first came out and got on I840 down here and had the speedo pegged out and kept gaining speed so I'm guessing it was about 160 or so. Fun part was is that it caught 4th gear at 80mph on the interstate and you could hear the tires chirp from it snatching it. What's even better than that is the car salesman was in the backseat while I was doing this and he was wanting me to keep going faster but we ran out of interstate.

lol until trains and cars people thought the human body was simply unable to travel faster than 50mph.... any faster would undoubtably kill you.
re heart probs etc... i would suggest it is entirely to do with how stressed it makes you. it would be a LOT scarier if there was things to run into or you may have to stop than say on a salt pan. And if you do it a lot you are probably (health wise) at a lot less risk. IE. micheal shumacher would be a LOT more relaxed than me at speeds of 190mph. I'd crap myself i imagine.

yeah, i've heard they even will lose a couple pounds during the course of the race, but that's not quite what i was getting at.
i was just thinking that the stark contrast of driving +200mph for hours at a time and then having to drive at normal highway speeds would be something you'd have to get used to

80 by mistake in an 06 Focus SES with the 2.0. I wasn't really paying attention to anything. I just put my foot where I would in my car and let off once I would be up to the speed limit in my car. Aparently, I had my foot in a little too far for a little too long. And the fastest in my car was 75 when I got stuck inbetween two log trucks in the middle of no where.
I got the lead foot, don't I?

I don't really know for sure since my speedo only went up to 85, but I was following my girlfriend's dad on his Harley and he was going 130mph... I actually caught up to him from behind so I must have been around 140 or so...part of this was downhill so I'm sure that took some of the strain off the engine.
I've got that engine in a T-type now w/ a 100mph speedo so I still wont know for sure how fast it can go.
And this was in my '90 Oldsmoble 88 with a 3.8 :) ...before I wrecked it... :(

Im not going to say your a liar but the truck, the malibu, and the camaro ones seem a little far fetched. Considering the automatics in the trucks would top out at about 100 and the manuals maybe 115. The camaro could pull it off with the right gearing and some other aftermarket stuff. Ive seen these hit 150+ but these were straight up drag cars, and the only street one ive seen come close maxed out at 140 383 stroker, long tubes, with lake pipes, 4.10 gears not sure on trans. It took some time but it was scary those cars shake like hell above 100. And the malibu is what alost a 6000lb car, you need alot of power to get it to go that fast. I know its possible but lightly modified and stock most likely not. With some good mods oh hell yeah.
I sure as hell know a peterbuilt will hit way past 100 even with a trailer. I was riding with my uncle to indiana for the PRI show one year and we where driving through west virginia we had the speedometer peged out in his f350 at 100, and these semis where passing us like we were sitting still. Fully loaded 54' trailers, even seen some of them pulling 2 trailers. It was insane in the mountains.
IL give you credit though those thundercats can fly, anyone ever see them try to push them across a river or a lake or up hills, ive done some dumb shit but not a damn motorcycle with tracks and some skis. I like my legs in one piece.

The Malibu weighed 4200 pounds and has 2.56 rears (stock) and a rat motor, it would do 70 in first, 110 in second and 155 in third with auto trans.
The z-28 was all stock 350 with a turbo and ran 150 at 6200 rpm
The pickup I still own and has a 534 Caddy engine with 2 turbos and 15 pounds of boost will go 166 + at 6000 rpm, it is geared 2.92 and used to have a .78 : 1 trans , but now has 1:1 and larger rear tires. It weighs 4220 pounds. It has a manual trans.
A high speed run is easy to attain with the proper gearing , but it takes lots of hp to pull it, There are not many semis regardless of gearing that have the power to pull even aan empty trailer 100 mph.
It takes about 250 hp to pull 100,000 pounds at 50 mph on the flat with zero wind. It will take maybe 500 hp to pull 100,000 pounds to 70 mph and the hp graph continues to angle upwards as the speed gets higher. Our Pete had 640-750 hp and tall gears , but 125 was all she wrote for lack of power, not topped out in rpm. In fact all these vehicles were topped out to the max speed at the max safe rpm.

Farm tractors are fun because the engines spin so slow that installing an engine that spins twice as fast doubles the vehicle speed provided it has the power.
pimprolla112
07-14-2006, 02:50 PM
I think you have it backwards with the semi. Diesel engines produce more torque than horsepower while these engines can produce upwards of 1000hp, they also produce almost twice that in torque. Ive seen these semis do between 100-120 fully loaded through the mountains.
Another thing is with "tall" gears you need a level surface that will be clear for MILES to reach those speeds. My old honda could do 120 in 4th gear and top out at about 130-135 in 5th. The problem with the tall gears is after a certain rpm you might only gain 1-2 mph in a certain amount of distance. While its possible some of the older gm would start to shake so bad you couldnt control it for a period of time. Great thing about racing is the 8 seconds your in the 1/4 and you hit 150-190 your only doing it for 8 seconds. In a vehicle that might do the 1/4 in 17' maybe even 15's would start to bounce.
Another thing is with "tall" gears you need a level surface that will be clear for MILES to reach those speeds. My old honda could do 120 in 4th gear and top out at about 130-135 in 5th. I think you have it backwards with the semi. Diesel engines produce more torque than horsepower while these engines can produce upwards of 1000hp, they also produce almost twice that in torque. Ive seen these semis do between 100-120 fully loaded through the mountains.

sorry, I did not mention tork at all. Only hp. I didn't mention tork because is pretty meaningless term unless an rpm is stated along with it for driving fast. Furthermore I don't care how much tork an engine has unless it can produce it at a high rpm. If a semi has 1000 hp then it will pull 100,000 gvw maybe 80 mph on a flat. There really aren't many 1000 hp trucks on the road. You must be clocking them going "down" the hills  Anyways to attain even 120 mph down hill tall gears are a must especially for trucks because of the max rpm of most of them.

The calculations are very easy to do online with rpm, final ratio and drive tire diameter. Assuming of course there's ample power to pull the load. Getting the power is something different.
I plug in a 24" tire with 2.4:1 ratio and 3200 rpm and get 95 mph

At rpm below 5250 tork is always more than hp ,the fuel is a non issue. If Dad's truck had 640 hp at 3000 rpm then it had x amount of tork. Have to do the calculation, but we never figured out any tork figures.

I hit 105 in a `98 Dodge Caravan 4 cylinder. Not that fast by most standards, but I was surprised that the car could even go that fast!

At age 15:
90 mph on I-40 in North Carolina, with a chuckling grandfather sitting shotgun, screaming grandma and 2 little cousins in the back seat of a 2001- Chrysler Town and Country. i still have the marks from the slap after we got out of the car from the oldest cousin. haha!
Fastest I've ridden:
146 mph pegged and still accelerating, in a 1991 mustang 5.0(rip) with a LOT LOT LOT of shit done to it. I know it had 18 lbs boost on it, and i think was somewhere around 890 hp, i'll try to dig the old dyno sheet out.
Bad ass fun!

My HS friend got a 70 Impala, gold with a 350 and corvette heads from his grandmother. It had a 400hydramatic 3-speed transmission. It was fine tuned with upgraded plugs, ignition wires, advanced timing etc. It was the top end model for the year and rated 300hp, 320lb-ft from the factory. When we were done, we were beating 5.0 Stangs (with Paxton supercharges) in the 1/4 by nearly a car length. It was a low 13sec car. It was a big 4-door boat. The cool part was, if you release the brake and give it no gas, you'd accelerate w/traffic up to 42/43mph without giving it any gas because it had so much torque and the rear end gears were just that tall. (381 I believe). Driving it like that, you could get 20mpg in town. In a residential, you'd have to keep it in 2nd so you would break the 30mph speed limit @ idle. But I digress...the speedometer read 120 on the horizontal setup (grandpa speedometer). We've barried the speedometer in the dash and still acellerated. His cousin who had a Q45 said his speedometer read 157 when we topped out. Very scary! Felt like you were on a coushion of air!

85mph, yes 85. I just got my car, and am only 16. I plan on keeping my license, car, and life, so i try not to "speed" too much. Once i'm used to driviong/ going fast, i'll take her to the track and run her.

Sadly only 185 mph in a 63 Corvette grand sport:banghead:I thought the '63 only had the Stringrays and Z06's and the '64 had the J56 aka Grand Sport?

142 mph!!! Since I'm rather tall and have been drving in Nigeria for 2 years My dad let me drive his Audi TT on a motorway. Some idiot in a Peugeot 106 came beside me and gestured towards me as if he wanted to race. So I looked at my dad who nodded at me and at me. So i downshifted into fifth, stepped on it till i hit 100, then i shifted into 6th and just accelerated till i hit 142 mph. At which point I had lost the guy and slowed down. It was fun, despite the fact I was driving illegally.

The fastest I've ever been in my car was about 150mph before I let off. It was on the highway with no other cars in sight and cliffs on both sides so no hiding cops.

Wow, this is an old thread... But I went 165 on a 750 GSXR, and 150 in my caprice...
EDIT: During broad daylight on an empty 5 mile straight stretch. Too many deer around here to speed at night...
