Hi Sami,
today i make some pics of my collection and what else i have on the go ;)
I know this pic you posted, this is the race version with the white letters on it, the picture i posted is the same race, taken in the box i think, but why is the powered by BMW black with a white frame?
Could it be a practice car??? I don`t know, but it can be my 4th Davidoff model if someone can clear up why the colours are changed :D

Ok, I'm looking forward to seen those images! :lol2:
OK, good the image was familar, of course I have done a text error that name, it should be 1995 not 1996. :grinyes:
I think there is a million reasons why the text is "wrong", seems they done every race some changes to the liveries, atleast feels like it. Erik, Doc or perhaps Greg can confirm these things better than me.
No there wasn't any practice cars, as I'm aware of. Of course spare parts were used (by McLaren) and taken out example #01R atleast Europe race weekends? but not actually spare car to replace like Formula 1 has been used to do. Meaning they haven't got any extra chassis to waiting if something goes wrong. This is how I have understood this.
Correct if I'm wrong.
David Price Racing had only 2 GTR's, which they run both seasons in 1995 and 1996. Chassis were #03R known usually "West car". In Suzuka and Monza they run this Davidoff livery. Second chassis were #06R that yellow-green liveried known by "Harrods" car. In 1996 David Price Racing made their own updates specialty to aerodynamics and other things but McLaren was of course backed up all teams I think. They contiued with these 1995 race versions in BPR series. The other 2 car team GTC GULF team "got" all new 1996 model GTR's (#12R and #15R) to season 1996.
Maybe DocGTR is the name who can help you with the livery details?
I think. I have not enough knowledge to that. :banghead:

I'd say the photo of 03R inside the garage with black-on-white "Powered by BMW" is taken at some point early in the race weekend, maybe even before the practices as I haven't seen any photos of 03R during 1995 Pokka 1000km weekend in action with that BMW sticker on its sides. It isn't so unusual the cars are changed during the weekend and different "setups" of the sponsor stickers are tested before the actual race to optimize the "visual appeal". Similarly 08R Gulf #16 varied a lot during that same weekend as some early practice photos show it lacking a lot of the stickers it wore in the race.
I think HPI (#8254) has made the most accurate model of this 03R Davidoff #8 1995 BPR Suzuka/Pokka 1000km race if it has all the correct Davidoff decals on it. Sadly HPI didn't much care of their customers abroad and provided those decals only for their Japanese buyers and left the others without or to source similar decals from other producers. AutoBarn made it too (AM016) and the factory built ones only lack a few decals (Karcher), but those built from the kit typically has them and some of them even extra Good Year decals on the side skirts. IXO has made it too (GTM055) but I think it's just a bad copy of the AutoBarn, and then there was also some pre-production versions with red mirrors that got loose from their factory.
Sadly youtube does not have the race videos (3 parts) of that Suzuka 1995 Pokka 1000km at the moment (or I couldn't find them). IIRC I downloaded my copies from there few years ago as they were still available, or might have been from so other source that I can't remember. I took a few screen caps of it to show the 03R in action during that race and those "Powered by BMW" stickers can be seen on the sides with white letters as on the models. The fourth photo in that image collage is taken just after the race having still the race dirt all over the car.

As the possibilities for scale models would be quite endless with all the different "test/practice setups" I normally aim to get the one how that particular car started the race, when all the decals are still on the car and the car is clean. E.g. in that Suzuka 1995 race 06R Harrods #9 lost a huge part of its green stripe sticker from the nose, as can be seen in DA. Of course it would have been nice if e.g. HPI would have done the 01R Ueno Clinic #59 also in a weathered version how it really crossed the finish line at Le Mans 1995 with all the race dirt on it and with race torn decals.

Thanks a lot Doc!
I agree, it must be an early point at the weekend cause all other pics i found showing the car as it runs in race with the white letters. It`s a bit funny cause i can`t explain why they did so, but your right that some cars changed the stickers at the same weekend.
I think i will do this version too one day.
Here we go with the models i build, still using IXO and Minichamps models as base, so not everything is like the real car, i did not build flaps or something like this cause it is very hard to scratch build everything. In the mean i put my attention to the decals. Some has the correct base plate with description, others not cause my friend which made them for me, went back to austria years ago.
These are my 3 Davidoff cars, the Monza, Suzuka and Zhuhai version

Thanks for the images! :lol2:
Great collection! Fantastic to see te effort that you have done those. Not just bought ready builded (like me).
About those white Gulf's; which is the base of the model, seems to be Minichamps or is it?
I have that IXO's white Paul Ricard GULF, and there is details missing, the BPR text from the door. Seems you have there that logo, if I looked it right.
And that #10R Pre-Qualifying is Minichamps and the normal red #10R is IXO not changed model?
Can I ask the technique how you work with those?
How you change the models, do you buy the decals or which is the technique to fix those from the orginal model a bit better?
Using some kind of glue or how?

WOW! Very nice conversions! I'm quite impressed how you have turned out the sloppy ixo's to such good looking pieces. Maybe the ixo's are better used as base models for conversions than just ready models. Perhaps they should consider selling their models as unpainted kits for hobby model car builders to let them build their own versions along the ready made pieces.
From your photos I noticed some smaller errors but one particular that is easier to pick up: the rear wing of the white Franck Muller 11R of the Monza 1996 - it wore those DRUM stickers there only in Paul Ricard. In Monza (and Jarama) it was clean black. Also the Repsol stickers on side skirts were there only in Jarama, in Monza there were Michelin stickers instead (blank in PR), and the BPR logo on the door is a bit misplaced. And on both white Franck Mullers it should be "Bresse Auto Sport" on both sides as that is the French BMW dealer. ;)
Here's (http://www.racingsportscars.com/photo/1996/Monza-1996-03-24-009.jpg) a photo of the 11R in 1996 BPR 4H of Monza.

whole list is 1/18
check www.scale18.com on the message board for nice pics of new AUTOart models! (no LM yet but there are pics of the MP4-12C 1/18!)
I really need:
F1 LM (or AA or TSM)
MC12
Veyron SS
Huayra
Sesto Elemento
Seems to get expensive this year combing models with my trips planned:)
AUTOart always takes a long while before things get into shops!

Thanks for commends to my models ;)
@ Sami: Yes the white Gulf is based on a minichamps, i bought these decals years ago from Decal43. The 96 Pre Quali Version Franck Muller is based on an IXO and the other red one is a normal IXO model, simply diecast. I bought decals from Renaissance, Autobarn, DMC, Decal43 and the missing rest are self made decals from a friend which is confirm in graphics, he printed them for me ;) I stripped the paint from the models, repainted them, put the decals on and clear coated the models. I scratch build some rear wings, cause the diecast wings are not correct for some versions.
@ Doc: Shame on me!!^^ I didn`t notice that about the Monza version for 3 years now! You have eagle eyes i think and your right. I surched my printed reference pics and i think i know what happened, i made the same mistake like Autobarn did. The reason for that might be that my reference printings from the real one are pretty bad and it could be that i watched the autobarn model, so i finaly made this mistake. Thanks a lot for this information, i think i will strip the model again and rebuild it to get a correct model ;)

Fantastic work I have to say, not easy job to repaint these. I defenitely respect this kind of thing! :smokin:
Did you remove the an orginal painting of the car or just over painted them?

Thanks a lot ;)
Yes i stripped the paint before i repainted them, otherwise the thickness of paint is too much to glue the windows back to the model and the engraved lines are lost under the paint. I used a paint stripper for that, something like acid i think.
I made two 1:18 models too, the red Prototype with the yellow GTR letters on it and a Davidoff as well, based on UT models, will surch the pics today and post them.
Unfortunately after a pc crash a few years ago, i lost all pics from my fantasy versions i did, round about 30 models, i only have some printings left over, but if there is interest in those versions too, i can make some scans of the printings. ;)

You are very talented. The models look great, espescially the two 1:18's.
I have tryed to collect most of the liveries over the years, but would still like the blue and yellow lanzante british gt version. Think it is too obscure for any big manufacturer to make!
As a link to the Mclaren 50 f1 car unveiling today, i have the 1:18 model of the 01r 59GTR le mans winner for sale on e-bay. Together with the Harrods 51 & Gulf 24 car.

Very nice very very nice indeed!:runaround:
Specialty those 1/43's which you have totally repainted and done. Not easy!! Details are so small.
Very talented work. Have to say.
Those UT's are brilliant, of course it's a bit easier, details are biger I think. Looks brilliant.!
Thanks for showing these! :smokin:
Why don't you start a "small" project, all 95 BPR GT GTR's, 96' and Le Mans cars, and then if motivation; Longtails.
You have talent to do this, defenitely.

Thanks a lot for kind commends guys, nice to see that you like it :)
@Lark: I think the problem with the Lanzante is, that all the pics i`ve seen are not usefull to make an accurate model. I tried to find out what graphics are on the car, but with the pics i have and those here it is not possible, i would like to build this version for years now, but no way to do it without better pics or informations about the graphics. :(
@Sami: I would like to do that, but it takes a lot of time and it is expensive cause i don`t have enough decals to do all and the production of decals is realy expensive!
For example: i paied round about 60 Euro only for the 1:18 Davidoff decals! So doing all means spending a lot of money only for the decals i need.

When i was buying the Autobarn GTR's years ago,i sent them pictures to try and help build a model, but they couldnt get enough info. Its no great looking livery, its just as a collecter you obviously want all the liverys used!
Thankyou

Sorry, haven't seen them 'live' yet, but from the photos and info I've seen from them they should be as great as their 1:43s, only in 1:18 size, so a bit more detailed. The only bad side is that they are curb sides, so no opening features like the UT's have, and probably no engine details on the long tails. I wouldn't mind lacking those features as I keep my models 'closed' anyway and also curb sides are less fragile especially during transit (so no broken hinges as usual with UT Macs!). Price will be around 16.000 yens (around 150 euros or 200 USD) + shipping. It would be nice to see both (HPI and UT) #41 Loctites next to each other to see the difference. I guess the difference is quite the same as comparing 1:43 HPI and Minichamps GTRs, HPI being crisper and a bit more detailed.

I love the 1/18 HPIs! I emailed them and the Loctite will be released in March and Fina in April. Will definitely be looking to purchase the Fina if I can get a good deal. They haven't said if they will make the #43, but if they don't, I guess I could re-decal it as that one.

And it's not just the wheel nuts but whole wheels look a bit off and the "chrome" paint doesn't look correct for them. Also the mirrors on XP3 looks too tall. These are still samples so there might be a little hope for the production versions to be corrected.

This is a 1/24 scratchbuilding of my favorite car ever. I want to build up the several GTR's in various liveries. At the beginning I just wanted to build the GTR version from Studio27, but later I have started to do some improvements on the wrong shape, and finally I have decided to build it from scratch. This is a 1/24 scratchbuilding of my favorite car ever. I want to build up the several GTR's in various liveries. At the beginning I just wanted to build the GTR version from Studio27, but later I have started to do some improvements on the wrong shape, and finally I have decided to build it from scratch. That is my thread:

Hmm by looking those images: they aren't really under 100€ or are they? The example engine detailing seems to be quite detailed level?! :lol2:

difficult to tell but a lot of it looks like it is white metal as well as resin?
DocGTR

Yes, the MFH full detail kit is a multi media kit: body and chassis mainly of resin, other parts from white metal, plastics, photo etch, etc. The kit has a very hefty price tag, above 31 000 yens seems the selling price in Japan, so around 300 euros or 350 dollars. And that's just for the unbuilt kit, professional building costs starts from around 500 dollars, but with extra detailing, top notch paint job and functioning doors etc. that will easily go above 2500 dollars for just one 1/24 GTR.

I have a 1:4 scale MP4 16 West Mclaren which was produced specifically for mclaren. I guess these are from a run of very very few. It is genuine as I know the source and their connections with the company.
Has anyone heard of these or any info.

You might be barking up the wrong tree - this forum is dedicated to the McLaren F1 road car and while many of us are also McLaren Formula One enthusiasts too, there's very little if any discussion of that here.

Also missed the UT's #16R, just thought that HPI had much more to offer than UT's model. Of course the Fina livery would have been fantastic in larger scale, like it has in #21R which I have in UT. Just more important today to me are the details, like HPI has done. Even #12R's streering wheel is the same what JJ Lehto used in Suzukas race 1996. That what I call seriously detailed model. :smokin:

Not mine, but I think it is a very good catch!. Look at the price, plunged down 23 euros! Is IXO good car model company? I visited their official website and they have one of the best collections of throroughbred racing cars, and sport cars also, my humble opinion.
Moreover, is this site familiar to you?
EDIT:

Ixo's are not so detailed. The quality difference is huge when compared that to HPI or even Minichamps old models. The details are not so good. The price is quite right, perhaps the livery is rare and that's why good to have, but that's the only reason unfortunately.
Of course it's what you want, if you don't look after so good detailing, then IXO's are right choise. Cheap and they do their job, but if you are looking for details, race by race details like HPI has made; then IXO's are not the right choise.
