The Definitive McLaren F1 Scale Model List.

A quick question to those in the know, there is a guy complaining on one of the diecast sites that the 1/18 Autoart LM right side rear compartment does not open , does it open on the real car?

Can't access a proper reference photo at the moment but both "luggage doors" open on the LM. The one on the right side of the car reveals the oil tank in the same place as on a road car and the large carbon fiber duct that funnels air to the oil cooler, which takes up the luggage space.

Yeah - the left side has a proper luggage compartment (although I've never seen any LM luggage) and it opens that way on the AutoArt model too.

Well even on the real cars that right-side compartment requires a screwdriver to undo the quick connectors that hold it closed. On the opposite side where there is still a luggage locker it opens with a lever just like on the road cars. The same screwdriver-access process is true of the panel over the exhaust under the rear wing, which also doesn't open on the AutoArt LM. I don't really see the issue - it's a very well done model and I think they were correct to have built it as they did at that scale.

at time I write it, it's unfortunately too late.

Dan-Toys was selling Minichamps 1/18 #01R at the incrdible price of 59€.

I just waited to be delivered to be sure but it didn't appear on the website.

TSM (True Scale Miniatures) will also make a diecast 1/18 01R which will be much better!

They will also make Gulf, Fina and Lark versions

After Minichamp released 01R in 1:18 they extended their 1:18 Segment with the Street Car in Black.

Just picked up the TSM Mclaren F1 GTR. I decided to focus my collection on competition cars only and that meant I had to upgrade my UT Models F1 LM. This is my first TSM diecast and I'm really happy with it. Thought I'd share some snaps.

I was wondering when you might post pictures. The model looks great! Your example appears to sit much better than those shown on TSM's website. There doesn't seem to be a shortage of detail either. I think TSM nailed the shape and proportions; definitely a step up over the UT Mclaren. Thanks for the thorough coverage!

Shoot... I didn't even notice the second caliper. The TSM model represents 06R in its '95 configuration. On the subject of scale Mclarens, Spark Model has released 1/43 versions of 01R, 03R and 06R:

Without seeing at least some pictures of the Harrods, Gulf and Fina liveries that Minichamps announced it's hard to compare the accuracy against one another. I was lucky that TSM at least had photos up on their website during the preorder phase. Personally I went with the Harrods livery because it's a simpler and less busy color scheme that highlights the shape of the car. The Gulf was a close second because it's an iconic motorsport sponsor (GT40, 917 etc.) but the aero details get lost in all the colors. Also, the silver rims with red/blue wheel nuts look great on the Harrods, in my opinion better than the matte orange on the Gulf. Some people say the red/magenta color on the Lark looks stunning in real life but I'm not sure the impact is the same at a smaller scale. FWIW, I got my model through tomotorsports.com. It's located in Toronto and ships throughout Canada/US. They have both the TSM and the Minichamps, in stock and for preorder. If you're on the other side of the pond maybe someone else would know some retailers.

I don't own any of the larger scale (1/18+) Mclarens. Going off of pictures, the Minichamps F1 GTR looks like an all around good model however, I think the TSM is the better looking of the two. TSM captured the overall shape better than the other companies (UT, Minichamps, AutoArt, etc) that have produced 1/18 Mclaren F1s. I see this most noticeably in the contours of the nose, an area that seems to be hit or miss across all scales and brands. For a little more on the TSM models, I got a little carried away commenting on their offerings in another thread here (http://www.automotiveforums.com/vbulletin/showpost.php?p=7174850&postcount=2). Again, all speculation and opinion.

In 1/18 scale I take it? I know TSM (and Minichamps) have made 05R in 1/43. I'm not aware of any existing 1/18 but the "art" livery would be really cool in a larger scale! While searching for scale-Mclaren-related news I found two things. First up are some pictures of TSM's 1/43 Mclaren F1 LM, found on Diecast Society (http://www.diecastsociety.com/first-look-tsm-new-143-mclaren-afla-and-porsche/). I'm not sure if its the images, but the shape looks er, wonky. Plus they neglected to omit the small duct in front of the rear wheel, as with their larger version. At least they are consistent. :wink:

Second is this really cool 1/5 scale model of 05R. If I'm understanding the description correctly, this was used by the artist commissioned to create 05R's livery. There doesn't seem to be much more information outside of the listing on Classic Driver (https://www.classicdriver.com/de/collectible/filip-o-ne-en-1965-mclaren-f1-gtr-le-mans-1995) (english translation can be found at the bottom).

Here are my 1/18 HPI McLaren resin models. They are by far the most accurate of any 1/18 McLaren F1 I've seen in person. They make my UT 1/18s look like junk. Heck, even my AutoArt F1 LM doesn't look good next to these.

Okey, it has been a while since writing there. Mostly because I love GTR's, and I got those which I prefer in my collection. BUT..... there was always this one...one thing which I was missing. The Engine.
All has been started long time ago, but at Spring this year - things went forward. One of my friends bought Aoshima Longtail GTR scale model and it came clear that the engine was possible to build from it. So what to do next - Find a builder in to it. Here is the end result.
What can I say. It has 1000 times better than I ever hoped. All details and colors, all matches. It wasn't really cheap thing, but it is unique. Together with my fathers painting of S70-2 V12 and....onboard F1 experience at the Tour I hardly can ask anything more. Huge super thanks for Markus Salminen who kindly took the challenge and built this to me. Also Ari who gaved the punch to go and start this project!

The drivetrain in the Aoshima kit builds up beautifully, so I can see why someone would want to present it outside of the rest of the model. Yours looks exceptional! The cleanliness of the detailing is impressive, especially when you consider that it is 1/24 scale!

Thank You for the feedback. The person who built this to me, had really skills to do this. Very experienced these things. Every single detail is perfect. And this was the only way to have the engine long side these all scale models which I have. :cool:
