silverado exhaust

I have a 2000 silverado with a 5.3 in it. I was wonderin what kind of dual exhaust i should put on my truck without spending a lot of money. I have considered a y pipe or some sort of true dual exhaust set up with more than likely glass packs. Which of the two would i like better. I want somethin that has a deep tone to it but when you get on it i want it to be loud. Which of these two set ups would I like the best or if there are any others anyone can thank of i would appreciate it.

I have a '99 Silverado with the 5.3L with just a single in dual out Borla muffler. It has a nice tone, not to loud and not too quiet and my friends and others have complemented me on it many times. I am really happy with it, I've had it now for 3 years and just like the stainless still is suppose to, no rust!! I got it installed for $200. Anymore questions just ask.

borla, gibson, corsa...

all make great systems if you want to spend the money... or you can buy most of their mufflers separately...

I have Flowmasters on my 2000 6.0L. big boys too....the sound is sweet, but there IS an resonance at very low rpms - say 40-45 mph. It could become annoying if held at that speed for a long time.
I agree that Flowmasters are easier on the wallet. One note though,
I just put them on my 91 Corvette(did it myself), and I took the time to
paint them with black hi temp engine paint before installing them.
I'll have zero rust on these!
that silver paint flowmaster puts on there is cheap/thin stuff - the rust shades showed thru on my truck real quick....I'll fix that soon.
Anyway...if you put them on there...be sure to paint them again with a good quality paint.

i wanna know where you got borla installed for $200 !!! i want either gibson or borla because they aren't as loud as those crappy flowmasters, and they give you better HP gain.

exhaust

I have taken my truck to two different exhaust places and both places said they cannot put true dual exhaust on my truck (2000 silverado). Both places wanted said they could y it. I know of at least three or four trucks as new as mine with true. I was wondering why is it they cant do it. I have heard the truck wont start but i find that hard to beleive.

Flowmasters are, like you guys said, kind of crappy, so what else would be good, besides borla, or Gibson. Those seem kinda high. I was thinking of putting true duals on my 2000 Silverado, but as the other guy, I don't know which muffler! I don't want it loud, I want it to bark at high RPM's, and give it that rumble at low. The engine is a 6.0L so it will sound real nice if I find the right mufflers.

I have a 2003 Silverado Ext Cab 5.3L and i just got a Borla exhaust, but i requested that they don't go all the way to the back, i had the shop where i was getting them run the tip to the front of the rear passenger tire,,, like the lighting has 'em. but the tips are the style of the 2002 ss camaro.,,, and they gave my truck a good boost of performance, it sounds like it's suppose to, when you step on it, it makes the noise,, but once your on the road the noise reduces but the power doesn't.

usually muffler shops who refuse things like true dual refuse due to legality issues.. look in the phone book under billy-bob, but be careful you don't get one of those jerks that rips people off and gives mechs a bad name..

you were right about the true dual exhaust, my boyfriend has a 2000 6.0 L and it often takes 2 or3 times to start the damn thing, this was never a problem until the exhaust was put on.

I have the Y setup on my 93 silverado w/ glasspac's and 3" chrome tips. The shop told me the chrome tips really made a difference. I'm very happy with the sound. But, when they first put it together for me they put on cheap mufflers that they recommended cause they thought that would be more to my liking. I returned them after a few days. Very happy with the glasspac's.
