Questions on what to do with orange peel
I just painted the body on my subaru tonight and it has some orange peel, i was wondering whether i should use tamiya compound or wetsand it, and wont both methods take off too much paint on all the sharp corners?
-Thanks |

Just don't sand sharp corners.
You can get away with just the compound if the OP is not too bad. If it is - sand it down lightly. If you mess something up, you'll just respray the thing

What grit do you guys use when sanding in between coats?
And do you guys clear coat before compounding and polishing? |

I recently purchased a "surface restoral kit". It contains grid from 2400 till 8000 and has some creamy polish to finish things off. when I get some orange peel, I send it down running through all the gradients it has. 2400, 3200, 3600, 4000, 6000, 8000.
When I'm lucky enough, not have sanded through any corners, I will do the clear coating. After a couple of layers I'll carefully repeat the sanding process on the clear coat and finish off with the polish. When I did sand through some corners (80% of the cases) I will only add a little more paint in some fine layers on the affected areas. Then on goes the clear coat with same process as above. Cheers, Guido |
