sup guys i've put them both on gsr's and ls's
the short ram has a good filter.. but sux engine air.
the cai sux the air from under the bumper for colder air.. more power..
i know it seems like a pain but it is really easy to do..
besides.. it's well worth it and the cai sound sweet as all hell..

it's easy..
which system did you get???
if it's the aem the directions kinda suck..
but if it's something else, then ya should basically take the exisiting air box out.. and take off the air tube that runs to the throttle body..
then take your new intake.. and put the filter on .. then there should be some support with it.. although some do not.. and then attach the other end to the throttle body..
tie everything down and make sure it's sealed.. and everything is plugged in ..
and before you do anything .. remove the negative terminal from the battery.. it'll reset the air sensor to get better readings.. make sure it's off for at least 15 min..
then turn her over and let the sucking begin..

on my 90 teg, the filter for the cai needed to be placed directly where there was a stock resonator box for the OEM air intake...
it was a bitch to remove...
is it gonna be the same on the 97 gsr?
Is this same type of box there?...and what do i disassemble to get to it to remove it?

Thanks!

Yes i got that system!! and it's not a shot ram and it's pretty dificult to install because the air filter doesnt fit between the chassis and the bumper.

What do i have to do to fix mi problem? Do i have to buy a smaller filter??

you have to remove the resonator..
and a few other random plastic parts..
the stock filter should fit.. but for some reason if it does not..
then you could get a filter that will fit.. or perhaps cut some of your wheel gaurds to make it fit..

A few things on short ram via CAI

A) Cold air gets better HP because even though air flows through the engine bay the air outside is still several degrees cooler. Cooler air has more O2 molecules.

B) You can install a CAI without taking off the bumper. You just have to leave in the water reservoir (it's in a pain in the ass place to get too). If you really think about it to install a short ram intake you're leaving this box in anyways. If you want to drop like 1/2 a pound then you can pull the bumper off. I did it broke a plastic retainer. Total pain. Don't bother

C) Cold air intake gets dirty. Dirty CAI = less HP than a short RAM. You have to clean the thing sometimes. K&N sells some cleaner stuff. I've never used it. It may be a total gimmick.
