auto to manual swap

my friend is thinking about converting his car from auto to manual and i had one shop estimate it for me and he said 800 for all the parts needed and 400 for labor. you guys think it is a good deal? also, could someone make a list of parts i would need so i can track some of this stuff down myself and maybe make it cheaper for my friend.
