Wiring Questions on Auto-Manual Swap
Alright guys, i used the S14 5Spd swap guide, but the fact that I got the tranny off of a 92 has thrown a couple of wrenches in the mix. On the re-wiring for all the sensors im kinda lost. None of the connectors come even close to any of the sensors on the new tranny, so I have to figure out the wires, problem is the auto had about 20 wires on it, while my 5 spd only has about 5 or 6. If someone could give me a little insight on this, it will be very helpful. I have the car where it will run, because my starter is running off a push button, it by passes the neutral safety switch and everything, but I would like to know how fast I am going.
The swap really wasn't all that complicated, the biggest thing...when installing the pilot bearing DO NOT USE A DEEP WELL SOCKET TO HAMMER IT IN, like the instructions tell you. Find a little piece of wood, or something that is softer than the pilot bearing but hard enough to hammer, if you can't find anything, use the socket, then either get some sand paper and start sanding that little lip, or getting a small grinding wheel and go at it, otherwise the tranny will not go in. And also if you took the 5 spd out of the old car, pay attention to see if there was a shim behind the flywheel, if so, you will need that when you go to install it in your vehicle. Otherwise the clutch will start slipping when it has ran for about 15-20 minutes. The last complication if you take the tranny from an S13 chassis, is you will have to have the driveshaft custom made. The carrier bearing on the S13 is located on the front piece of the shaft, while on the S14 it is on the 2nd piece....I think thats right, if not its the other way around. Just take the 2 shafts to a driveshaft shope, tell them you need the standard yoke on the automatic shaft and the distance between the splines on the yoke and the front edge of the carrier bearing mounting holes needs to be 22 3/4" I do believe, you might what to double check that. I know that sounds like a lot, but if you take care of that stuff first, its not that complicated.

Try taking it to a shop, I know that sucks especially after doing all that work by your self but you took a newer block with the previous models tranny in the same line of car, something not too many ppl will do, thats like taking a 94GT stang w/ the T-5 and switching back to the ford A4ld from a 89 GT, not too many ppl will have done the same thing. Check yahoo search engine, thats where I get most of my info.

well i haven't figured out the wiring yet, haven't had time to figure out the wireing....plus i can't figure out where the speed sensors are on both cars. but i think i know how to straighten the crank position sensor thing out, just don't have time to pull the tranny again to do it. I believe you can swap out the bell housings from the old tranny and put the new one on it, if you can do that, then you will have your spot for the CPS. as for the rest...gotta get time. Right now im doing a DOHC swap on my friends 90 240sx, and damn does that thing have a long wire harness.

i had the same question only with the same model car 89 auto 2 man but most people in this forum are disagreeable if you know of anything i really wanna know specially wiring and drive shaft lengths
