Quick question about the Z28.....
Now I hardly know anything about these cars, I just wanted to know what the stock specs on a Z28 are, hp and torque etc... What are some stock 1/4 mile times that you guys have done or you guys have heard. Thanks:alien:

The 2002 Camaro Z28 comes with an LS1 motor that produces 310 hp and 340 lb of torque. The stock 6-speed ones do around 13.5

The new SS and Z28 Camaro's have virtually no difference in straight line ferformance. Auto's are capable of mid to low 13's with well driven six speeds dipping into the high 12's stock. For example, what should be the slowest available LS1 Z-28 setup: a 2.73 rear automatic convertible, was tested by Car and Driver and ran 13.8 @ 106.

They put out around 340-350 hp stock. It's most likely underrated so as not to encroach on the Vette's 350hp rating.

You not completly right first the SS with a 6-speed has never done high twelves stock. They do low 13s from factorI dont car if the best driver drives it. But i have to agree GM did underrate them i believe that they would have more horsepower all though they did mess up on the 00 model with the piston rings.

I have personally witnessed a few SS's and Z-28's run high twelve's stock. GM High-Tech Performance magazine, and also Muscle Mustangs and Fast Fords Magazine have gotten each to run a high twelve bone stock on stock tires. GMHTP did it with a Z-28 and MMFF did it with an SS. MMFF went as far to say that if it had'nt been super humid that day, a 12.7 was not out of the question. The ones I witnessed went 12.9's and 12.8's at 108 mph. They were all on stock tires, no lid, and way too quiet too have a cut out. 108 mph is plenty of trap speed for a car of that weight to run a 12, if you can get it to hook. I will also say that my local tracks are very close to sea level, but this kind of performance has been reported numerous places.

I dunno
You sure they underrate them? They use that same 350 engine but usually Chevy likes to keep their Vette on top. It wouldn't surprise me that they downgrade the engine a little bit. Reason I say they aren't underrated is because of that Firehawk which they say produces 345 hp with a less restricted ram air and exhaust. Thats not exactly a Pontiac product, SLP is the one improving the Trans Am right?

Keepingthe Vette on top is the reason for underrating them. They run similar qutermile times, with vette trapping about 2-3 mph higher becuase of its better aerodynamics taking over above 100mph. There are many dealers such as Berger, Tom Henry, few others, including those who made the Intimidator SS that rate them at 380hp with just a cold air intake and cat-back exhaust. I don't know about you, but jumping from 310 to 380 with just an intake and exhaust seems abit high to me. GOing from 345 to about 380 seems like a major jump too but alot more reasonable. Besides its alot cheaper for GM to just rate one lower than to actually produce different parts for the same engine when the vehicle it's placed in is enough to make the difference.

I believe the only difference between a Corvette LS1 and a Z28/SS LS1 is the cam. I believe that is how GM downgrades the engine, by giving it a little less cam. It's true that they downgrade the Camaros, they can't have them approach their baby in the sportscar world.
SLP makes Firehawks out of Formulas and Trans Ams. To get the 345 hp rating, they just swap the lid and catback exhaust. To get the 335 rating, they swap just the catback exhaust. Some LS1's have been dynoed at 350-360 hp bone stock (not all of them mind you). Some just come from the factory a little stronger than others. It's still one of the best powerplants, regardless of how much it's underrated for insurance purposes.

the '01 '02 Z28's and SS's actually have the same intake, cam, and clutch as the Z06. So they are actually a bit more pwerful than the '98-00 ls1's, and I remeber that MM&FF article, lol, that was great... if it was the one I am thinking of, the magazine's own writers were complaining about ford's in-ability to produce a better powerplant than GM.

Geeze
In my opinion the CORVETTE is very overrated, the ZO6 is a very fine car. But the new vette's that aren't ZO6 and have nothing done to them are crap. Very inconsistent!
