Painting over alclad?
Well, I've coated some wheels with alclad, and now I need to go over with another color in the center of the wheel. I've sprayed over alclad with Mr Surfacer, and then the tamiya acrylic color, but this chips off really easily. It's like nothing grips onto alclad.
Will I lose any of the alclad chrome shine if I coat over it with glosscoat like Mr Super Clear? |

Alclad II chrome is very smooth, therefore most paint will have trouble staying on it. You could sand the parts that will be painted over with some sandpaper to give the primer and paint some "bite", otherwise it's like making water droplets stay on a waxed car - impossible! I wouldn't recommend hnadling the wheels too much after you're done painting them.
Other alternative is to paint the center colors first, then chrome it with Alclad. BTW, how's the chrome shine? Just like the original?
