Clear over alclad

Hello all
So I was working on my current project and I noticed that one of my tires had a silver streak on it. When I look more closely at it I noticed that the silver was coming from the wheel that I painted in Alclad Chrome. I painted the wheels weeks ago so I know that its not because theyre wet. I was thinking about putting a clear coat over them to seal it up. I was just wondering if anyone has sprayed clear over Alclad Chrome before. I ask because I dont want to risk something bad happening by it. If anyone has any advice or experience with that they can share, that would be extremely helpful.

If you want those wheels to look like they were painted in regular silver paint, go ahead and clearcoat them.

There is no clear paint that will protect Alclad w/o ruining the reflectivity effect.

My options are:

TS-13 (Lacquer)
X-22 (Acrylic)
Model Master Ultra Gloss (Lacquer)

Also what about Model Masters Clear for Metalizers?
Does anyone know if that might work?

Testors dulls it.

The chrome never dries, if you touch it, it will rub off onto your finger.

What type of paint did you use for the black base coat?
I've used both testors enamel and tamiya acrylic for the black base and not had much trouble with the paint rubbing off.

I used Alclad's base black

You can use "X-22 (Acrylic)" without losing the initial shine.

The following is right after I used smoke clear (Tamiya acrylics) over Alclad polished alum.
