What do you keep your tire pressure at?

Just curious....

I have 205/40/17 and Discount recommended 35 psi.

I haven't checked them since I had them installed a month or so ago

How often do you check your tire pressure?
If the tires are checked hot you are suppose to add / subtract so many or some $hit like that.....

Can someone clear that statement up please? ...I will most likely be checking mine hot since I'm at the gas stations for 5 or so minutes

NEVER keep them right near the max pressure rating, that's intended to be an inflation warning and not a recommended running setup. FWD cars drive a bit more balanced against understeer when the rear tires are inflated slightly higher than the fronts, I run mine at 34 psi front and 37 psi rear during normal driving. At the tracks I used to run 38 front and 40 rear, but that was on my old 16" tires and not the new 17" set. Once I take it to an autocross and determine what psi rollover occurs on the front tires (I suspect it'll be close to 35 psi front), I'll run the new setup differently. I generally think that anything over 40 psi in a tire does more harm than good in terms of tire wear and ride quality, but admittedly this is just one man's opinion and is a hard question to answer to begin with.

Ps- Check your tire pressures when they are cold, not hot. It's not like that is especially hard to do, just stop at the gas station closest to your house instead of the one 30 miles away.

Hey LX...I run 35 front and 33 rear on mine.

I check them about every other time I fill my tank.

I have BFG Comp T/A 215/60 R16 tires. The door sticker says to inflate to 30 psi but I usually use 35 psi to decrease rolling resistance. I did the chalk line trick to find the pressure at which the tire sat flattest and was surprised at the results. The tire sidewall says 44 psi is the max allowable pressure. I found the most even chalk line wear at about 40 psi. I spoke to the manufacturer about this and they said that was too high so I compromized and use 38 psi. There is a wide range of pressures that give similar wear on the chalk line.

One problem I used to have with 245/50 R16 tires that were inflated to 30 psi was on very cold winter days (like -20 F) the bead would separate and I'd find a tire flat. It's no fun changing a tire in that cold. I always ask the tire mounters to use plenty of sealant when mounting my tires. I believe that helps too.

ok, so which way does it go?
most people run higher in front than in the rear, but it was stated that higher rear would reduce understeer.
so which is it?

Increasing or decreasing the rear pressures whille keeping the fronts constant will induce oversteer. Keeping lower pressures in the front will create a slower oversteer, whereas higher pressures in the rear will induce snap/quicker oversteer.

the guy at tire place said for my 225/40/18's to keep 36 in them cold, so as to have good wear and decrease the chance of a hole warping my rims.... I checked them today and it was about 34 all around
gonna put some mor in em later...
