When I shift into reverse from park, a loud clanging noise (sounds like a hammer hitting a steel pipe) happens. It also happens again when I shift into drive and start to accelerate. It sometimes happens when I'm at speeds of 20-40 mph and I take my foot off the gas and as soon as I push to accelerate....CLANG! Please Help.

If its a car making that sound its probably CV Axles (auto & manual), but our problem is different. Im hearing that U-joints is the problem but I dont think that is it. I was under there and the driveshaft is solid; wiggled n jiggled no movement.

Fix (maybe)
It seems that a common problem is that either the pressure soleniod or the PWMTCC (Pulse Width Modulator Torque Converter Clutch) control soleniod in the tranny can cause this. Sometimes a simple fluid and filter change will fix this. My 2000 4WD LS is in the shop today having a flush and fill and they're going to look at the u-joints and run diagnostics on the soleniods and let me know. The dealer charges out the a$$ ($300 +) for these items but there's a place you can order the items for around $40 shipped to you. From what I hear it's a pretty easy fix too. I haven't done it because of a lack of facilities. Damned apartment complex.

Has anyone figured out what this noise is and how to resolve it? Clangs until I reach 20 miles per hour then stops. Got the rear end changed and filled, noise seemed to go away, but its back.

I'm leaning twards U-joints but I am not sure of how they sound when theyre bad. It also sounds worse like a mechanical clang low and annoying. If I slam the gas it will make noise to about 20 mhr.
