I have a 1995 Grand Am SE 3.1 V6. When I put the car in reverse it makes this terrible grinding noise. It does this while I am still and while backing up. The transmission fluid is fine. When I am driving down the road the gears shift just fine. I asked a mechanic friend about it, and he said it was the clutch. Has anyone else had this problem? Please help. Thanks!

Re: grinding noise when in reverse
I HAD A PROBLEM FEW DAYS AGO,SAME NATURE,terrible grinding noise. It happens that my 5-speed manual tranny had no oil whatsoever, and what happened gears ground each other. Now after buying another tranny and puting it in I have different problem. When I want to shift into fifth gear ,it will sfift but with grinding noise, only while shifting.Othervise all the gears are ok,except fifth, and fifth is fine only makes noise when shifting into it.I will post this topic, but if anybody has answer please let me know.Clueless.
