How much work is needed?

hi all, im thinking about getting and modding a first generation eclipse. i would get the gsx w/awd. what would i have to do to get the car to produce over 400whp? i have heard the internals are really good, but would they handle this much power? what kind of turbo would be recommended? what about the transmission? would it handle this? and the axles? if someone could make a list of everything id have to do id be very grateful as i am very interested in this car. thanks.

Re: How much work is needed?

1g internals will handle 400whp.
5 speed transmission will as well, but you might look into 4 spider center diff, beefier 1st... stuff like that. I haven't read anything mildly in depth on common transmission power information (cough 95 GSXracer cough) but it will do well.
Turbos that support 400whp are mitsu 20g, 50 trim t3/t4 and similar.
Axles are good.. 92+ 4 bolt rear end is better than 3 bolt. (not clear on this either, all 2g's have 4 bolt)
I won't make a list however, I've done it once today for someone else. You need to find supporting mod information for 400whp, or look for supporting mod info. on a 20g, or 50 trim. Good luck.

Re: How much work is needed?

You could do it for under 5 grand, I'm sure. You could also spend 10 grand doing it with bling bling parts, but it's fairly cheap (relatively).

Re: How much work is needed?

I agree. 4 spider and the tranny is good to go unless you break it or it needs a rebuild just because its old. Stock motor is fine, only internals you need are cams, if you can even call those internals. The biggest thing is tuning/logging and fuel delivery. An EPROM ECU will be a massive help in that department. For a 1g I would suggest a key diver chip with injector compensation and a MAFT. Injectors at least 660 in size, perhaps larger. Just get the chip to match.

The rest is all obvious. You can check out my modlist at wwwposracing.net to get an idea, and check out chads too.
