I serviced the transmission on my 97 grand cherokee. I drained out approx. 5.5 quarts of fluid out of the pan, but after i put a new filter/gasket on and reinstalled the pan, it only took 4.5 quarts and it's reading close to the "max" line on the dipstick. Was it overfilled before the fluid change, or should i just add more? How much are you supposed to add after a tranny service? Thanks for any info.

Re: transmission fluid capacity?
Well I just did mine on my 96 ZJ V8 and put in 4 qts and mine is on the low side. I changed my filter also...and I was lucky enough to be able to re-use the gasket since it was plastic and way-easy to keep in place when putting the cover back on.

Re: transmission fluid capacity?
the manual doesn't specify the amount of fluid checked many times. but if it is shifting fine, then I wouldn't worry about it. let the engine run shift thru all gear like dale said, place in nutral and check fluid, while engine is running,.
if it is not shifting right, u might have emptied the fluid out of the Torque Converter, and it did not refil when u fill the tranny. |
