Empty convertor or just the pan?

Generally, its tough to fill the trans with precisely the correct amount of fluid the first time.

If it's truly empty, with an empty converter, add 8 quarts of fluid. If you have just dropped the pan, add 6 quarts.

Afterwards, start the engine, check the fluid level and add as necessary.
