Unhappy Back up lights out - Failed Inspection

Well it figures the one thing i didn't check before i went to inspection is broken. I just got a 93 Civic EX and it failed inspection because the back up lights are out. It's not the bulbs and it's not the fuse. It's a manual tranz. Could it be a sensor or something? A little help to keep me from having to bring it someplace would be great.

Thanks,
~Keith

The back-up light sensor is on the front bottom section of your transmission, there are two wires that go from the engine wiring harness to the transmission (they run under the distributor to the very front of the engine) they have a two pin plug, it's not the four pin connector, I'd disconnect it and put a multimeter on the transmission side to see if there's a signal with the car in reverse and the key in the on position. If there is no signal your sensor is probably bad, if there is a signal then it's probaby in you wiring if you already checked the fuse(s?) and bulbs.

Thanks for the help. It was the switch going into the tranz. I replaced it and it's good as new now. I owe you one....

Unhappy sensor

I dont think auto stores carry those. Your best bet is to just spend that $30 and go buy it from the junkyard.

I picked it up at autozone, If the store you go to does not have it, they will order it for you. It cost 30 and change for a new one. Was a pice of cake to put in.
