Tips for racing a AWD
I'm asking this newbie question, just cause there are probably many people want to know about these things and are afraid to ask. Or also couldn't find stuff on a search. So if anyone wants to give good racing tips (and not shit like "get a RWD") please add them. I'll add mine later
I'll be posting two other ones for racing FWDs and RWD. |

with AWD you usually gotta launch at a really high rpm. usually atleast 5K. and if your crazy enough you rev to 7K. then you DON'T drop the clutch becusae if you do the it will put soo much shock on your drivetrain that you will be breaking transmissions left and right. the proper way of doin it is to burn the clutch alittle on to control wheel spin much like on a RWD car launch. then after it stops spinning the tires you let go of the clutch completely and then you floor the thing.

the tires don't spin on awd, 55 or 6g rpm dump depending on the car and let loose. tat does make a good point though, you should let of the clutch not all the way imediatly if your worried about your tranny(i would assume some tranny's are stronger than others), but other wise dump it let it rock, but also i would assume that even with awd every car is gonna be a little diff, i don't know for sure cause all i know is my car.

I would stay clear of doing the higher rpm clutch dumps. Unless you like doing clutch jobs
The main thing you should keep in mind. When going into a turn let off the gas going in then get back on it just before the halfway point. With my sub. Legacy I took it out on the dirt roads for learning it's in & outs. Then once I got it down on the dirt I took it to the blacktop If you learn on the dirt your skills will shine on the blacktop .

Re: Tips for racing a AWD
Aye, You can still get insane times with AWD without high rpm launches - Jon Shepherd for example...

For a VR4 if you dump the clutch at 4500 you'll be sucked to the back of the seat. There really isn't a whole lot of skill needed. The hardests part is doing it right when the light changes.
