97 LS tranny

Does anyone know what the theoretical max speed and HP on a 97 LS tranny is? How much can it take?

Re: 97 LS tranny

156mph @6800 rpm.

The axles will break before the tranny will. Iirc, the limit is around 400-450whp for drag style launces.

I have heard of them supproting over 500 hp. Now top speed would probably be around 150 ish if you have enough hp to get there.

A teammate just turbo'd his LS. It's an auto-x (low hp/low boost) setup. He dynos at 187whp. He can reach the geared top speed.

Re: 97 LS tranny

Yes but it is turbo, turbo motor produce alot of TQ up top. And that will be all top end which is where the turbo motor will be producing a great deal more tq than an all motor. I know you said low boost but boost in the upper rpm range still equals good improvements in TQ.

Re: 97 LS tranny

Yes, that's true. But don't forget there's only two ways to make horsepower. 1. Increase torque 2. Increase rpm while keeping torque steady
Most upper rpm hp improvements are from raising redline and keeping torque from falling off as the engine revs out of its original powerband.
