the max kills (big topend race)

i was talking about racing someone soon.... i haven't raced anyone until the z killed a mustang gt about 3 weeks ago.

i head out just to pick on some cars. there are a lot of ricers in parma, so there's my first target. i drive all around.... main streets, side streets, and there's no one out there. after about 30 min i was still driving around, so i decide to get on the hiway to test out my car there. the only other time i was really on the hiway in the max was the second day i bought it and the clutch died after i was on it about 5 minutes.

so i get on... i have a lead foot so im just gunning it in 3rd all around. couple cars get behind me, some chevy family sedans and start riding my ass. i was not heading out to race these cars, so i just stepped on it and went up to about 90 to catch up to some real cars.

about 3 miles down, i see a newer firebird. i pull next to it in 3rd going about 60, then i noticed it was a very new ws6. some woman is driving it with her guy in the passengers seat... and they were a lil older (upper 30s early 40s) so i knew there was lil chance they would want to go. i was thinking i would get killed if i went against it. anyway i rev and pull about 1/2 car, but they didn't go. did it again... no luck. so im just like screw it. i slammed on it and i noticed about 200 feet ahead there is a camaro.

i pull closer to it, its very low to the ground (maybe dropped) and had a z28 badge on the side. i pull ahead of and also noticed the slits in the hood.... so it was a z28. it was white, either a 95 or 96 because the paint wasn't perfect and it looked a little older. so im in 4th, drop back a lil and rev it just like i did the ws6. the guy just looked over at my car. i dont know whether he thought i was serious or if i was just goofing around. so im ahead of him... i downshift to 3rd and let it roll back, again im even with the z. then i mash it, and i seen his face drop when i pulled... again he didn't step on the pedal, he was just watching.

remember, that intake sounds effin mean. and very loud. he probably thought it was heavily modded.

but there was no go.... i thought again since he was older (low 30s) he might be a dud. so i drive along normally for another 1 or 2 miles, looking for another car and passing by the airport. after i was past the planes, i was looking for a place to get off so i can head back home, disappointed again. then i see the white z come back... he's about 200 ft behind me. before he dropped back by a good amount so i thought he was gone. im guessing he thought about it for a few, or was just waiting until we were passed the airport. so i downshift to 4th.. waiting for him to come. i see him step on the gas, his car is about 60 feet behind me so i too step on it. then he stops when he is about 75... so im thinking wtf. is he going or not.

im sweating now, waiting for him to make the move. it was pretty clear ahead of us, only 1 car in the 4 lane hiway and it's a real good stretch with not much curve at all. so right then he's about 30 ft behind me and i see his car start coming on full speed. i shift to 3rd, stay in it for about 1 second and shift to 4th. im at about 80mph now. we both went for the left lane... i was in the 3rd lane and he was in the 2nd. so im just gunning it in 4th, and he pulls behind me. so we hit 85... 90... 100...... about 105 i pull in the far left 4th lane. he follows..but i see he lost about 1 car length on me so far. i shift to 5th.... another couple seconds i started screaming like a little girl. i was at about 120 and had a good 4-5 car lengths on him, then i see him hit the brakes and he stayed wayyy back.

i couldn't believe it, but then realized it was very possible considering the z's top vs. the max's topend.

i pull off at the next exit, getting ready to head back home and check the stats on a z28.

my car, 95 max gxe stick is supposed to run 0-60 in 6.5 and 1/4mi in 14.9@93.

a 95 camaro z28 is supposed to run 0-60 in 5.5 and 1/4mi in 14.1@101.

yes a z28 would kill me off the line... but from an 80mph roll? it did happen! the max beat it. the topend on the max is better than on a z28, proven. i know there are various factors in street racing but i seen that z pulling behind me, it was really moving, i was just moving faster.

i seriously didn't know it was this fast... when i hit about 100mph in this race i felt real good power, and was surprised at the amount of it. this was with full interior, spare, full tank of gas, etc. i am much better shifting than i was 2 weeks ago when i ran the max at the track (that was right after the clutch went in, 3rd day i had it)

remember i have an intake also, so my 1/4mi times from stock should be about .2-.3 seconds faster.

took a while for my first real race, but even though i had to wait a while it was definately worth it. its so fun racing in this car because it looks completely stock, down to the 1.75-2" exhaust. they don't know what's coming. all that is different is the NISMO license plate frame and the roaring engine

I believe the Maxima is pretty quick, but I don't think the guy had the balls to go any faster. If he was a confident driver, then he would pulled past you like no other.

Just take a look these numbers

'95 Maxima GXE 3L V6
190hp @ 5600rpm
205tq @ 4000rpm
3000lbs

'95 Camaro Z28 5.7L V8
275hp @ 5200rpm
325tq @ 2400rpm
3373lbs

You're slightly out matched, plus remember that the Z28 and base V6 have the same hood. So its possible it was a V6 Camaro. My speculation is that the driver of the Camaro was just a wussy, considering how long it took him to finally catch up and race you.

But, good kill regardless.

very well could have been....

anywho, i know the hp/weight ratio... but that doesn't say anything about lowend, midrange and topend speed. any way you can figure out?

i did think i would get killed-----but i know it was definately a z28. i raced v6's in my 240 before and they beat me by just a little. and i know how a v6 pulls.... this guy's car pulled a lot better. remember i have a 250rwhp z sitting in the garage, i now know how a car pulls

my guess is he chickened out once we hit 100ish.

if anyone's coming to cleveland anytime soon i'll give you the keys to my z and i'd like to race the max against it side by side from a 80mph roll

edit: on the way home i pulled next to a neon with a body kit, personal plate, sterio going, exhaust, etc. i rode his ass for about 100 feet and pulled next to him. he started revving.... then i revved it up. he made a quick right turn

closest clip i found to how mine sounds http://www.myweb.cableone.net/kindre...rankenacce.mp3

mine's a lot louder for some reason.

Well, unless you've ridden in a Camaro. You wouldnt understand that they're very fast on the highway.

I asked my friend who's dad had a '95 Camaro Z28 with a auto tranny. His dad had his Camaro upto 140+mph and faster on the way to Vegas several times. I know several people who have or have had the LT1 F-body cars and they've all said they pull very hard on the highway due to the flat torque curve.

Like I said, the Z28 driver was a wuss... but you still won. And it is still your kill. And you still earned it. Just beware of the next one you come across cause they might have the same amount of balls as you.

I don't think he bit as hard as you think he bit. I've gotta agree with Redneck, if he was trying he could have had you. That in mind, try racing an LS1 on the top end. I've raced 3 LT1's at once, and walked them from a highway roll. LT1's pull hard low, but not as well up high. They've just go no umph there. LS1's pull hard up high, as well as down low.

Man, racing is so much fun

My friend has a 94 Z28 6-speed LT-1 all stock except fiberglass hood and Flowmasters. That car will pull from 65mpg to 100+mph like a raped ape. It impressed me the first time he did it.

it was not a v6... it was a Z!

right when i sell the z im getting a nice casio exilim s3... i'll literally be able to tape it onto the windshield. i'll get some races on video, maybe then you'll believe me...

im just thinking, like redneck said, he was a wuss and pulled up on the pedal once he went a lil passed 100.

and also... i drove an auto max before.... they are DOGS get yourself a stick buddy

Cars with LT1's/LT4's are in 93-97 Camaros and Firebirds, and C4 Corvettes. LS1's/LS6's are in 98-02 Camaros and Firebirds, and 97-present Corvettes.
