Goosing the idle kills the car

City driving sux for this problem when i m coming up to stop lights, the car wants to die sometimes, or it will drop below 500 RPM and kick back to a 1000. Works fine on long drives. I noticed that the Tach is very, very touchy, it bounces around, instead of being smooth. I have one of those expensive car chips that tells me whats wrong with the car. It was telling me that it was the throttle/pedal position. However, i replaced this on the car with a brand new one from advanced auto parts, and it still has the same problem, so its not the TPS. I think the computer is getting fooled by another problem, but im not sure cuz its still reading the same problem (P0121 is the trouble code i think). Vaccuum lines appear to be okay. Any other suggestions? My brother-law's friend had the same problem and i m waiting to hear from him on what he did to fix his problem. Something about MAPS, he thought, but not sure, he was going to check with the servicer. I have a 97 GT. Any help is appreciated!

Re: Goosing the idle kills the car

Try unplugging the mass airflow sensor it see if it clears up the idle.If so it's time to replace.

After you unplug it, just let it idle and see if it clears up.The price for the MAF is about 150 bucks

Good Luck

Still having throttle issues

I have replaced the MAF, TPS, and vaccuum lines that are somewhat even close to being brittle. PCV valve seems ok. Everything seems to be in working order, but the throttle still seems to have a mind of its own. Sometimes it'll kick up to 2500 rpm when im creepin and ill have to put the car in neutral, shut it off, and restart to get the car to idle right. Tach is very very touchy, does not have its smooth flow like it should. Also, I m think i don't have passing gear all the time anymore cuz i ll step my foot to the floor and it acts like it doesn't want to give it gas but a little at a time. It doesn't do that all the time though, its very fooling, but any GP driver would notice. My car is my baby and ive been wanting to resolve this issue for a while, but its like a needle in a haystack for this problem it seems. Can somebody please help me out? You guys have given great advice before, lets see if I can stump you on this one. Thanks to all!

Re: Goosing the idle kills the car

just a quick question. Did you clear the trouble codes after replacing the tps? IF not, the computer doesn't recognize that you replaced the sensor and may be bypassing it causing the same problem.
