Big problems with the Max
Long but please read..... Thanks
Remember a few post back when I mentioned the problem with the Max being stuck in park after I started the car? Well the problem kinda disapeared for a while(1week). But it came back, and at the worst time. I had to take my girl to the hospital(she's expecting) and was having pains. The thing got stuck and I had to go so I yanked it from park into drive. When I got her to the hospital, I noticed that the key was now stuck in the ignition . Damn, more issues...... So I said Oh well I must have gotten it stuck because I yanked it into Drive. I then left it alone for a few days because I didn't have the time to get it fixed so I drove my Beretta for a few days parking the Max in my yard with the key stuck in the ignition. If I drove it, the problem with it being stuck in park now disapeared but now I could'nt take the damn key out. Then the ultimate problem happened...............*takes a deep breath*.........I decided to use the Max to go to the store because the beretta's gas was low. (Forgetting about the problems) I push the button to open the doors for the Max and the alarm goes off......... I push the button to take it off and it won't turn off........ I then try to start the car and it won't start...... All the lights come on when i turn the key but no luck... So now the alarm turn off, the key is stuck , and now my car can shift from park to drive "very easily".... The thing is its not the starter because I managed to start the car using a piece of speaker wire by connecting it to the starter and the battery and it started.... But it won't start using the key. Only if I pop the hood and use the speaker wire. Thanks for reading guys and hopefully someone can give me some advice. me and pops are gonna pop out the center console today and hopefully do some surgery and at least figure out a diagnosis. Thanks for reading

Damn that is messed up, I've heard of the Max not being able to move from park to drive but the key getting stuck and all that, I've never heard of.
Try disconnecting the battery and allowing your ECU to reset, if that doesn't do the trick, start the car up and let it run for a while, when you get it going drive it straight to Nissan and have them check it out. I've noticed that once or twice my car had a hard time shifting outta park into drive and I just let the car warm up well before I tried to disengage the tranny selector. I believe that there is a mechanism in the tranny that won't allow the car to be moved out of park (unless the car had been previously started and ran) until it is warmed up to a certain degree. I think I read that somewhere else, I'll look around and see if there is any TSB's out there for this problem. In the meantime go to the org and ask over there, I'm certain that someone there knows or has experienced something similar.

ok, something similar happened to me when i had my g20...anwyays, you need to have the ignition cylinder and your key looked at, cause they are prolly the culprit. i needed a new cylinder and key fabricated, and everything runs smooth as hell now

I think something is wrong with your shift lock.
The way its supposed to work is when you have the car in any other gear but park, the key won't come out, and if you don't have your foot on the brake, the car won't shift out of park. It sounds like this mechanism is messed up. The deal with the car alarm is probably that the thing thinks its armed and you can't disarm it. Take the other key, go outside the car, and lock it with the key, and then unlock it. This should disarm the car if the remote isn't working. When you start the car and press the brake pedal, do you hear any kind of "click" sound near the shifter? This is the shift lock, unlocking the shifter so you can move it. If you don't hear anything, this may be the problem. |
