2000 gtp CV/Trany/unknown issue

I have a 2000 GTP that has about 167K miles on it. the car has had a shimmy, only with the engine loaded, that has progressively gotten worse to the point that I had to drive below the speed limit or be standed 200 miles away from home. But got it home and inspected some stuff and trany oil appeared to leak out of the CV seal. So in the process of pulling the CV shaft I noticed there was about a 1/4 inch of play where the CV goes into the trany. The shaft seems good but I replaced the shaft and seal just for good measure to make sure that it wasn't causing it. On the test drive the shaking was just as bad if not worse. When I got back trany oil was all over the engine compartment. The seal does not leak while not moving.
Im thinking its the transaxel bushing but the drivers side has about an 1/8inch of play. But niether side has play when the car is not in the air. so maybe not. The tires don't appear to have any bulges, all the bearings seem solid, Maybe a bad motor mount, I know thats been going because of the movement of the engine when putting it in gear and such. I can also hear a crunching sound when the engine goes from reverse to drive or if I hit a bump at low speeds. Maybe it something completely different. Thanks for any imput or ideas.

Best thing to do if find the ATF leak and get it fixed. It could start a fire in the engine compartment. What condition is your steering, suspension and tires in? Tie rod ends? Struts? Play in hub bearings? Tires in good condition and properly balanced?

And welcome to AF.

Sorry I have been driving my other vehicle becasue I haven't had time to work on this. The steering is in pretty good shape. I would say that it probably needs new front struts. (Could that cause it?) The tie rods are fairly new and there is no play in the hubs. The tires are newer but that doesn't mean that they are balanced.

I have heard that bad motor mounts can cause a simular shaking under load. Which may cause the shaft to vibrate and leak out the seal. My plan for this weekend is to pull the shaft back out and make sure I didn't damage the new seal putting in the new CV shaft. Probably get the tires balanced and inspect the motor mounts and struts.
