Monterey 2011 - will P25 find a McLaren F1?

Well I could be jinxing myself by starting this, but who knows.

I've just booked (at the last, last minute) all my travel plans for Monterey this year. Quite hopeful that I will cross paths with at least one McLaren F1 and given their frequency of being 'around' that area during the Pebble Beach weekend it does seem likely that I could get so lucky. Unlike past years though, I've gotten zero advanced notice of any F1s that will be attending as a display, auction item or otherwise. If not, I am sure to have a great time regardless.

There's not a chance of getting a ticket to The Quail Gathering where #011 was in 2010 and #068 was in 2009 so if they go for a three-peat at that event I will probably miss out on that one. I am going to attend most of the other big events and will definitely have my eyes peeled.

I figured if I started this thread and anyone happened to know of one that will be attending, or sees evidence of one in any of the online coverage over the next week or so, that I might be able to link up with it along the way. Again this all could be wishful thinking but it's been far too long since I saw my last McLaren F1 so I am hoping for a bit of good luck.

Yes, it has been rather quiet with notifications of F1-attendance, but surely there should be one somewhere at some point???
I would say, use your network to the max, post on all the other boards that you frequent, and be as much prepared as you can. Might even get you a VIP pass for the Quail? There must be someone from these boards, who know you are the nr. 1 McLaren F1 fan, and can get you in there????

On the gadget-front: Buy a walkie-talkie, rent a Segway, get extra batteries for your Blackberry for 24/7 FB presence. You cannot and must not miss any of them.

bucciali- Thanks for the well-wishes. I will probably skip the Segway rental and just hoof it everywhere. I have put some feelers out, have several friends who are already in town and know to keep their eyes open for me, and maybe just maybe I will get lucky. I think my best chance is if #042 is in the paddock at the Monterey Historic Races (now called the Motorsport Reunion).

I'm slightly bummed about one thing already - there is an F50 gathering planned at Concorso Italiano this year and apparently there are only 3 registered to attend. I guess 3 is better than none, but I was hoping for a better showing for what is my favorite Ferrari.

By the way; my friend asked me recently how many F1's are located in USA?
Atleast these ones I know or have been there, but how many roadcars?

If I do find one, there will definitely be some live coverage or as near to live as I can manage with an upload from my iPhone.

We hover around 20-24 McLarens here in the USA at any given time. It's been that way for quite a while. You can check the North American fleet thread for the ones that are believed to be here now.

I'm just hoping I get to see an F1. If I get "lucky" too, then man is it going to be a GREAT weekend.

I just sent off the email so hopefully the owner and I can make arrangements to meet. I told him I was ready to cash in my almost-expired Rain Check for a chance to see his car. If his itinerary is the same as it was in 2008 (the last time I was supposed to be there ) then there is some definite overlap in our plans and it shouldn't be too much of a bother.

If this is the only F1 I get a chance to see this year that's okay - I've been looking forward to this one since 2007 and it is a very special car. It will also be nice to finally meet the owner - he's been nothing but friendly in our exchanges over the years.
