Recap of the North American F1 fleet

Ok - after the amazing efforts of bucciali on the Japanese fleet thread and now Chris with Europe and the UK ones, I guess it's my turn to put together the American fleet thread. I'll also include Canada in the mix.

F1 road cars/F1 LM:

XP4 - Larry Blair - San Jose, CA

Formerly owned by Sir Roger Bhatnagar in New Zealand.

= = =

#001 - Owner's name withheld - Chicago, IL

<-- File Photo from the UK

= = =

#003 - Owner's name withheld - Sarasota, FL

Sold by Symbolic in LaJolla, CA in Feb 2008. Car was previously in Japan for about 12 years. Prior to that it was owned by Ron Dennis in the UK. Attended the 2010 MTC Owner's gathering.

= = =

#011 - John McCaw - Seattle, WA

Spotted in Aspen, CO during the 2006 Player's Run. (Link) Previously in the UK, maybe elsewhere. #011 was auctioned by Christies in June 2003 for 637,720 GBP which at the time was equal to 1,073,665.25 USD. An extreme bargain if you ask me. This car was originally painted "Carbon" and had a red stripe on the vent line of the door.

= = =

#013 - Owner's name withheld - Dallas, TX

<-- File Photo from Japan

In Japan for most of its early life then bounced around a bit finally landing in the USA in mid-2009. Owned for approximately one year by Bernie Carl in Washington, D.C.

= = =

#014 - Marvin Schein - New York

Orignally Yellow. Bought from SVAG at the RM Auction - Monterey 2006 for $1.705M. Car was refitted with the High Downforce Kit and resprayed white in mid-2007. Formerly owned by Gary Schaevitz (NY), prior that in the UK, and formerly owned by the Brunei Royal Family. More images here.

= = =

#015 - Jay Leno - Burbank, CA

Formerly in Germany as I recall.

= = =

#022 - Miles Collier - Naples, Florida (Collier Auto Museum)

Formerly owned by Wyclef Jean. Originally owned by Thomas Bscher. Note: The Collier Museum is currently closed to the public except for special events. This car was originally painted "Genesis Dark Blue".

= = =

#024 - Gary Schaevitz - New York

Formerly owned by Jim Clark (Nor Cal/FL). Originally owned by Paul Burdell in the UK. This car was originally painted "Carbon".

= = =

#028 - Tom Price - Marin County, CA

Formerly with owner unknown in SoCal. Previously owned by Clifford Meltzer in Los Gatos, CA. Prior to that it was in Japan. Owned originally by Michael Andretti.

= = =

#031 - Owner's name withheld - Chicago, IL

Originally with Yoshikuni Okamoto in Japan and painted white with "McLaren" decals on the luggage doors. Sold to the USA in 2010.

= = =

#036 - Owner's name withheld - Houston, TX

Sold through Taylor & Crawley in 2006. Originally owned by Mansour Ojjeh. I'll just add - stunningly beautiful.

= = =

#038 - Peter Sachs - Greenwich, Connecticut

Formerly owned by Bruce Weiner (GA), Alfredo Brener (TX), and Dan Kennedy (AZ). Prior to that in Germany I believe. This car was originally painted "Base Silver"

= = =

#042 Owner's name withheld - Northern California

Car was previously silver. 1 of 7 "Ameritech F1s". Formerly owned by Carl Beal - Midland, TX. This was the Road&Track magazine test car.

= = =

#044 - Herb Chambers - Massachusetts

1 of 7 "Ameritech F1s". Formerly in the UK.

= = =

#045 - Gary Schaevitz - New York

Formerly owned by Seth Neimann (CA), Armen Gugasian (Newport Autosport), and Gerd Petrik (FL). 1 of 7 "Ameritech F1s"

= = =

#??? - Lawrence Stroll - Montreal, Canada

This car was first spotted in Canada in 2001, and then wasn't seen again until 2008 in the Ferrari of Quebec service department.

= = =

#055 - Ralph Lauren - New York / Colorado

Refitted with high mirrors. 1 of 7 "Ameritech F1s"

= = =

#062 - Larry Bowman - Northern California

Sold for $3.575M in Aug 2010. Formerly owned by Joseph Lacob (CA). Originally owned by Larry Ellison (CA). 1 of 7 "Ameritech F1s"

= = =

#065 Owner's name withheld - Houston, TX

Auctioned by RM in London in 2008 for record price of £2.5M. Spent 4 years in Singapore. Prior to that it was stationed in McLaren's Park Lane showroom in London since being built in 1997.

= = =

#066 Owner's name withheld - Houston, TX

Need photos

Car was purchased by the same owner as chassis #065. Formerly in Germany with its original owner.

= = =

#067 - Irv Kessler - Minnesota / Oregon

Car caught fire and was severly damaged in Santa Rosa, CA in June 2009 but was rebuilt by McLaren. Formerly owned by Elon Musk (CA). Prior to that Gerd Petrik (FL). 1 of 7 "Ameritech F1s"

= = =

#068 Ricardo Vega-Serrador - California or Mexico perhaps?

<-- File photo

Purchased from the UK in early 2011 where it stayed just a short time. Formerly owned by Dan Watkins - Boston until August 2010. Prior to that owned by Richard Powers - Costa Rica from July 2005 until May 2009. Previously owned by Frank Selldorff (MA) and Alfredo Brener (TX) prior to that. Came from the UK and may have at one time been destined for Christopher Dawes.

= = =

#072 - New owner, Texas

Sold in early 2011 - new owner tbd. Car is at the factory being refitted. Will retain the HDF Kit, but will have a new paint scheme and interior.

Formerly owned by Thomas Gonzales, Nevada. Displayed at the Blackhawk Museum in Danville, CA for a short time following his son's untimely passing in 2001 who had owned the car. Previously in Germany with Gunther Dahms.

= = =

#073 - Don Wallace - Tampa, FL

Car has been spotted twice near Monterey/Carmel, CA in 2009. Has LM-spec engine, but is not an LM. This car was originally painted "AMG Green Velvet".

= = =

#074 - Ralph Lauren - New York / Colorado

Originally built with high mirrors. 1 of 7 "Ameritech F1s"

= = =

LM3 - Ralph Lauren - New York / Colorado

Formerly owned by Frank Selldorff (MA), prior to that David Morrison (UK).

= = = = = =

F1 GTRs:

#17R - Belongs to BMW USA. Stored and prepped by Rahal-Letterman racing in Hilliard, Ohio.

Was previously kept at PTG Racing in Winchester, VA and spent time in the BMW Zentrum Museum in Spartanburg, SC for a while as well.

= = =

#23R - Lawrence Stroll - Canada

Not a bad car to have when you also own Le Circuit Mont Tremblant.

= = = = = =

No longer in the USA:

#007 - Frank Selldorff - Massachusetts

Car sold to Geneva in early 2010. Formerly owned in the UK by mr bridger, and prior to that with a member of the Saudi Royal Family.

= = =

#016 - Northern California (#042 owner)

Sold in early 2007. Car last seen in Macau at the City of Dreams Hard Rock Casino. Prior to coming to the US it was for sale at Schaefer Automobile - Germany's official McLaren F1 service center. (Link) Originally listed as having been painted "Aubergine", however, it tends to look grey in many photos.

= = =

#037 - Peter Manelis - Newport Beach, CA

Car relocated with its owner to South Africa in early 2005. Peter purchase the car from its original owner in Cologne, Germany in ~1999.

= = =

#069 - Tom Wieringa - Chicago, IL

Car left the USA sometime between 2005 and 2007, resurfacing with Aaron Hsu in the UK. I believe before coming to the USA it was previously owned by James Munroe in the UK. This car was originally painted "Mercedes Brilliant Silver".

= = =

#12R - Aaron Hsu

Relocated the car to the UK and still owns it. Kept at Highcroft Racing in Danbury, CT while it was here in the US.

= = =

#19R - Kevin Crowder - SoCal or Texas

Sold to UK customer - left in June 2009. Seen frequently at Symbolic Motors in La Jolla, CA while here.

= = =

#21R - Aaron Hsu

Sold to Christian Gläsel of Germany in early 2007. Kept at Highcroft Racing in Danbury, CT while it was here in the US.

= = = = = =

Those are all the ones I can think of at the moment. I'll be back to clean this up a bit and add the photos I didn't have handy or already hosted. Feel free to add or subtract anything you feel belongs here.

Thanks man.

Of course none of these 'Recap' threads could have been put together without the help of lots and lots of other people - both the ones who post here on a regular basis and also ones who choose to remain "silent partners" on the side for many of us. It's been a real team effort in all cases.

Re: Recap of the American F1 fleet

Sweet!

Now we are on a roll boys! Thanks for starting this Erik. Let's see what we all can contribute.

This is exactly what I thought was missing, when I launched the Japan Fleet recap. An overview of the F1's, with pics and current whereabouts, bit of history. In one place, to save you all the thread searching.

I am sure the three new threads will boost our search for F1 info (even more ) and that the search will be fruitful.

I guess now I have to give my thread a serious update, to keep in line with the others

Re: Recap of the American F1 fleet

Hello,

great work dear Erik In USA, nearly all F1s have pics, name owner etc... it's great !

Quote:
Suspected to be previously owned by Mansour Ojjeh - that may not be true. Has LM-spec engine
Mmm, what do you mean ? I was at Genava in september 2003 and It's him or his brother who was here. I'll try to find pics w<ith the owner but it's quite hard.

I think you are mistaken Patrick. This car has been tied up in a huge legal mess here in the USA for several years. Part of the punishment the US government was hoping to impose on the owner for fraudulent importation was the forfieture and sale of this car if he were found guilty. It's my understanding that #069 has been locked up in a US Customs storage facility during this entire time period. I also don't recall any photos from you (or anyone else) of #069 during that gap, save for the Bonhams Auction photo they used when the car was supposed to appear in Monaco in 2005. It ended up being a no-show there.

Isn't the car you are thinking of #018? Grey with the High Downforce Package and a light tan interior that recently reappeared in Singapore?

Re: Recap of the American F1 fleet

Somehow I had written down that #068 is in CA with "Richard".

Just wondering, is the user who posts here as "Jemada" Gary Schaevitz? I'd heard that this user owns #014 and #045, Schaevitz owns/has owned both.

The owner's name is Richard. It was in Monterey, CA when I got my ride last year, but it recently became public knowledge that this car is now in Costa Rica. In fact, you posted in the thread and someone clarified the location info behind you.

Yes - that assumption is correct. He sold #014 though, and has since acquired chassis #024 from Jim Clark to replace it.

Re: Recap of the American F1 fleet

Nice recaps guys! I really hope #036 doesn't have anything like a repaint or HDF put on it. It's definitely my favorite road car. Is there any knowledge (or rumor) on how much it sold for?

Re: Recap of the American F1 fleet

No word on the price, but visually #036 has not been changed. The new owner seems to agree with you and I that the car is beautiful as is. I'm not even one to normally like blue interiors, but there's something about this car - wow!

Incidentally, although the car was sold through T&C in the UK I have a feeling it's lived in Europe most of it's life.
