Re: sti or evo

The 4G engine has been around for a decade, getting power out of it is much easier than the STI. The parts and knowledge base are already out there, its easy and cheap to make the EVO fast. And the EVO already outperforms the STI stock for stock.

See what I mean

The STi is faster than the EVO in a straight line stock for stock, and some people have found the STi to be faster around a track than the EVO. It depends on your personal driving style and which car matches it better. Just because you read in a magazine that one car beat the other doesn't mean you should take it as the 100% repeatable truth.

If you want to get picky, the EVO comes with stickier tires than the STi. That alone could mean a several second difference. The EVO also has a more aggressive suspension and alignment settings. That could be another second or 2 there.

In the real world and not in magazine land, these cars are equal.

Meaning it's 10 year old technology. Engine developmnet and design have come a long way in the last 10 years.

Again, only because it's new technology. Just because you haven't seen it yet doesn't mean that (1) it's not out there and (2) there won't be bigger gains possible.

Easier and cheaper, right now, yes, but with the same development time, it is very possible that the STi will have equal, or bigger, potential gains from the same modifications.

These cars are so close that I have read magazines that show both better than the other. As ldelaysionl so eloquently put,

Re: sti or evo

well...
let's just keep an old thread going.

how old do you think the boxer design is?
how old is the ej20, specifically?

at least as old as the 4g63.
the 4g63 in the evo is also very different in alot of respects from the older dsm motors, so it's not an "old" design.

350 small block chevy. basically 50 yr old design. and can still kick your ass.

And here I get yelled at for accidentally reviving an old thread.
