i'm trying to think and i cannot come up with any 4.7L gas powered V6's

i know some diesels that get even bigger but no gas engines.

someone mentoned a jeep engine from what i know the biggest 6cyl they have is the 4.0 - i guess you can stroke and bore one of those.....

Yeah I guess Chevy has the biggest one then I've never heard of anything over 4.3L's. Even Honda's NSX doesn't have a bigger V6 then that, strange. Heh go S-10 :silly2: ! Too bad that engine will be obsolete when that ugly Colorado replaces the truck. Stupid Chevy and their crazy get rich quick schemes, 5-cylinder..pfft..

Well, the five is cheaper to produce since it's based on the same architecture as the WONDROUS DOHC straight-six displacing 4200cc. I love that engine. All aluminum, DOHC, four valves per cylinder, and variable valve timing. It's possibly one of the best small truck engines on the market delivering a broad 274hp and 270lb ft of torque.

And you really have to like the mid-engine Silverados and Trailblazers they built for the Baja 2000 with 5.0L, 600hp versions of this engine. Those things were STELLAR!

Yeah, but they only have the Variable Valve Timing on the Exhaust side.

Its not like the real deal(i.e. Vtec), still works though. They sound like Hoover vaccuum cleaners. Kinda go Wooooooooooo down the road. hahah.

vtec is only on the exh cam...

what's the difference?

Variable Valve Timing on the Exhaust
that's most of what vtec stands for...

most variable valve timing setups are only on 1 cam... like the toyota vvtl-i, the focus zetec motors, etc...

in another thread, someone mentioned the straight 4.6L 6 of the tvr tuscan...

You're right in some sense but you're mostly wrong.

On the Honda side of things, SOHC VTEC only happens on the intake lobe of the single cam. on the DOHC VTEC has the variable-valve effect on both the intake and exhaust side. This is what allows these motors to have the tuning flexibility it has. With iVTEC, Honda follows the same path. In the RSX-S, Euro Type R, JDM ITR, the K motor has the variable-valve effect again on both the intake and exhaust cams. In the USDM Civic Si, the K motor only has the variable-valve effect on the intake side.

Toyota's VVTL-i in the Celica GT-S has the variable-valve effect on both the intake and exhaust side also. The VVTL-i employed in the base Celica, the GT, only has the effect on the intake side. Same with most of Toyota's line-up with this effect, including the Corolla S, and their inline-six motors (IS300 and GS300).

As for the other manufacturers with variable-valve technology (Ferrari, Porsche, Subaru, Nissan, Ford, Mazda, etc..., etc...), when they do not use variable technology on both the intake and exhaust, they use it on the intake side (a'la Zetec). If you had to chose between better breathing and better exhaust flow, I'm sure you'd want better breathing.
