the crossfire has a mercedes engine in it, not an AMG engine.

i'm repeating myself, b/c it's not an AMG spec motor. it's simply one from the mercedes line.

find a quote that says it's an AMG motor in the crossfire, and then i'll admit i'm wrong. i just read an article on it, and it's the same motor as in the SLK, i believe, but it doesn't say it's an AMG motor.

AMG does not tune all merc motors.

The Car and Driver article on the Crossfire says nothing, except that is is built on the SLK Roadster platform. But I am pretty sure I heard or read somewhere that it is a normal Mercedes engine, nothing about AMG... Don't quote me on this, because I am not 100% sure...

Does all this mean the car will drive like a Mecedes SLK???

From what ive read the Crossfire is a better driving tool than the TT. I wouldnt know cos i havent driven one. The TT is based on a golf platform, the blown 4's are decent, but the 3.2 V6 is the one to go for. I liked the Crossfire the first time i saw the pics but that impression didnt last long...

as stated in autoweek...

www.autoweek.com

"The drivetrain features the same 3.2-liter, three-valve sohc V6 found in the C-Class, the ML, the CLK and about a hundred thousand other Mercedes products. It’s a good, smooth, powerful workhorse of an engine that does many things well in many different cars. But because the Crossfire was put together in less than two years, there was no time—and who could justify the money—to design an engine specifically for it. Thus, the 3.2 falls just short of what you might expect in a sports car, but not too terribly short. It makes 215 horsepower at 5700 rpm and 229 lb-ft of torque at 3000 revs. That isn’t bad for a nice V6 but the Crossfire weighs 3060 pounds. Thus, the power-to-weight ratio also falls short of being sports car-ish, at 14.2 pounds per horse. A high-performance sports car should be down closer to 12 or even 10. "

i don't see A M or G in there...

Finally, someone comes out with the proof. Whatever engine is in it, the Crossfire should be a pretty good driving 'tool'.
