You'd probably have better luck getting your questions answered in the Civic forum.

But as for your issue at hand - you probably won't expect to be much competition for the B16 without heavy engine building, motor swap, or forced induction. Of course, you could always go the nitrous route. That's relatively inexpensive and could give you a fair shot.

Edit: Here's a site that focuses entirely on D-blocks.

Re: D16 Modifications

I'd rather be losing hoods and hitting deer than making an effing moron of myself and my car.

I completely agree. Street racing's a bad idea. My roommate's known some people that have gotten killed doing that.

Re: D16 Modifications

well, i happen to be an occasional dumb ass street racer though im trying to cut back... anyway for 500 there isnt really much you can do with a non vtec engine. Boost is probably going to be your only option. My advice to you is to keep that 500 and save it, no matter how long it takes just save your money, dont even put an intake or header on your car in the meantime. Buy a greddy turbo kit, they go for like 1400 shipped on ebay, they are ready to go and im almost 100% positive that you will be in high 14's at least. They dont come with a blow off valve which you really dont need, but im sure you want, but you can get one cheap and use the kit without one in the meantime. And by the way i've never lost to ANYTHING with a B16

Re: D16 Modifications

slap a z6 or y8 head on the block and boost it homemade turbo kit you can make with a little less than 500.go to www.homemadeturbo.com the y7 is a good block to boost low compression. one guy was making 254 hp 234 lbt stock internals 12psi, but 8 psi for daily driveing 14b eclipse turbo. with a home made kit. i have one on mine but never dynoed.i have a y7 block, z6 head, y8 intake, and 14b turbo, and a home made turbo kit.you can find everything you need at home depot.
