Will a B16 head fit on a D16 block?
B16 head/D16 block...
What all would be needed to make this Frankenstien? I know that Sparq asked a similar question but I think that this one may need attention, too.

No it will not work.
Sorry but only d series heads will bolt onto d series blocks and only b series heads will bolt onto b series blocks. HTH

its not nearly worth the amount of money needed to mill and bore and cut and weld and do whatever to match those two up.

just use the first letter of all the honda motors as a simple guide......B will only fit B.....D will only fit D.....etc.

That's a good rule to go by..but like always there are exceptions.
One example being the ZC motor. Which is compatible with teh D16Z6 head. But then again..the ZC is known by a D-series code in other countries........

Yeah the ZC is just the D series but for our overseas patrons...
it would be nice if you could do that ad just have each built. but would be to much $..:frog:

Apprently the two head gaskets are quite differnt, and altough the swap can be done it does require some machine work to both and head and block to line everything up.

Well...first of all I wasn't really saying a ZC head will work with a D16Z6 block or vice-versa. I was saying parts for a D16Z6 would work on a ZC. (such as the GReddy turbo kit)
Though it is possible with some machine work like Moppie said. Damn you mop! always makin' me look stupid ![]() It's a hell of a lot easier than a B onto D swap. Why SOHC on DOHC? For VTEC of course :hehehe: . Or going vice-versa with a ZC DOHC head on a D16Z6 block.Hey Moppie - did ya get any of those jobs?

Yeah, you can use certain parts made for the D16Z6 on a ZC, like the turbo set up because the exhaust manifolds are interchangable. But the heads are not interchangable no matter how much machining you do. The oil and coolant ducts are in different places. Even though they are both D series motors (the ZC is just a JDM D16A) the oil and coolant duct configurations are completely different. Mainly because the heads mated to these blocks are designed differently. And the D series block has evolved considerably since it's inception in the mid 80's.

Hey, just wanted to thank you guys, because I was about 10 seconds away from posting the exact same question that you started with when I saw this thread. The D16 in my 99 EX is ok, but I just began to wonder if I could get a B16A top end and get real VTEC, instead of its SOHC little bitch sister.
What cars had D-series engines with DOHC Vtec, other than the Civic Si, that I could steal from and put onto my wee motor?

None of the D series motors were DOHC Vtec. You will have to swap in a b series motor like the b16a2/3 or B18c1 to get the twincam Vtec setup.
