which is better. D16 DOHC or D16 ZC(both JDM)
Not very well informed on my Honda engines yet. Was considering a JDM SOHC ZC, but I have come upon a DOHC D16 for around the same price. Both with manual cable trans.
'88-'91 Civic/CRX Si (JDM) D16A8/9 1.6 16V DOHC PGM-FI 1595 137hp@6800rpm 108tq@5700rpm 88-91 Civic, CRX, Si, SOHC ZC/D16A6 1.6, 130hp set me straight. thanks

Re: which is better. D16 DOHC or D16 ZC(both JDM)
well i am not personally familiar with either of these engines but i would say stay away from the dohc for the size issue, here is a b-series (i think, it's a 1.6l sohc vtec out of an '01 honda) motor in a 1G civic 1200. it just barely fits. this is a D16A1 put into a 79 wagon (originally a 1500 so the front end was slightly larger than the 1200) and it's even tighter. these are both cars built by Justin March of vancouver BC. i stopped by his shop about a month ago and it was amazing all the cars i saw there, then i saw all those and more at the langley car show the next week.

Well the DOHC D block is also a ZC motor so i'm assuming that you are talking about the V-TEC ZC motor that's SOHC. As far as better goes the blact top DOHC ZC motor is rated at the same HP as the Vtec one. So there isn't really a clear advantage except for the fact that with the DOHC you can put on adjustable cam gears for finer tuning. So if you are planing on turbo i would go with the DOHC but thats just me, but as far as upgrades go for just dropping it in they will both work and work well with minimal changes... u can use the same tranny etc. anyway i hope this helped.

Re: which is better. D16 DOHC or D16 ZC(both JDM)
I am on civic1200 and 1st Gen Civic.
I know mostly what will be involved. It sure aint a drop in. But what is a little cutting and welding, wiring and til 2am fabbing? I have the CVCC so I have the few extra inches that should fit the DOHC with some pushing around of the engine bay. thanks all Are you the wagon guy on 1st Gen- CVZC?
