Sami, nice comparison of the 16R models!

Yep, first I thought the UT's 1/18 would be nice, but don't think that way anymore. This is perfect quality range. And that's it.:)

Pretty sure that auction is fake, probably a shill bidder, he uses the same photos and description as this guy who used to scam people with having some high price auction items, then selling a really expensive item, never deliver and be gone. He often used 1:12 McLarens as a part of his scam.

I was near Donington park today, so I popped into the F1 Grand Prix collection museum on a mission to take some pics of 02R for a certain person . With the very kind permission of the museums manager I was allowed to take plenty of pics, a few for now. I,ll post more at a later date, including detail shots.

As for the F1 Grand Prix collection, its a great collection and well worth the entry fee to just stroll through slowly and study the changes in the cars through the years, some great exhibits in there

Yes, thats correct you did read 02R......... but not quite the real machine :headshake just the superb 1/5th (approx) scale model thats on display in hall 2.

DocGTR

Where can we buy LARK decalcs?

HPI offers the decals in the campaign for their Japanese customers but elsewhere ebay is almost the only way to get the decals. Those on the eBay (http://www.ebay.com/itm/1-43-HPI-Lark-Decal-Mclaren-F1-GTR-/400254717268?pt=Diecast_Vehicles&hash=item5d310a4d54) right now are for the Suzuka 1997 long tail LARK and would miss the rear wing decals for the short tail.

Romu offers these HPI short tail/JGTC LARKs (#60 (http://www.romu-romu.com/item/17801.html) & #61 (http://www.romu-romu.com/item/17802.html)) with the decals applied for some extra cost so you don't need to apply them by yourself. I guess those decals will be released few months after the models as was the case with long tail LARK/Davidoff GTRs so anyway you will have to wait to get the models complete, even from Romu.

There are also at least Museum Collection 1/43 LARK decals available in some model stores (e.g. Raccoon (http://raccoon-shop.com/SHOP/mc_d181.html)) and they may be used but they are mostly designed for Minichamps and IXO McLarens. Also they lack the black edges of the letters, but so did most of the HPI LARK decals for the Suzuka 1997 long tail too. There might also be some of the AutoBarn and Romu/F'artefice LARK decals on the market designed for the AB kits but they might be too complex to be used on these diecast models and might not even fit properly.

DOC:

Are there any informations when those short tails are coming on sale? And what are the prices?

DocGTR
12-03-2011, 02:03 PM
Sami; according to EBBRO's (http://www.ebbro.co.jp/ebbrohpi_2011.html) site the release date is "mid-January". They have also some other nice pics of the sample model! ;)

About the best place to buy? Depends how you like it. I guess ebay offers them quite price competitively but if you want the decals applied I don't know other than Romu to offer them such "easy" way. The application of the decals isn't that difficult thing and those HPI decals are quite good ones to apply, but still have to be careful with them as they're cut to the minimum size (follows the edges of the letters) and especially the Davidoff decals were a bit hassle to apply on the sides.

Sami Aaltonen
12-03-2011, 02:06 PM
OK, well I have to follow things then in January!
About the decals; HPI's own decals are I think enouhg good allready?
Atleast the long tails everything is right correct.

DocGTR
12-03-2011, 02:18 PM
HPI's decals are good enough and I personally would prefer to use them than other options. On the Suzuka 1997 LARK the the front "LARK" decal/text was a bit curved but HPI's decal it is straight, but has correctly the black edges. Other decals on their set didn't have the black edges, which is incorrect and a little bit annoying as it is easy to see on that rear LARK decal, just above the exhausts. Those on the doors are not a problem on 1/43 scale. So I hope those decals for the rear wing of the short tail LARKs will have the black edges. BTW Minichamps LARK #60 also had them all without the black edges.

I really was looking forward these HPI's, but I have to say; they were even better I hoped. Detailing for not by handbuild model is absolutely stunning to watch. Even there is differences between these models; so all that tells they really take it seriously.

HPI's #12R (http://kuvablogi.com/blog/1949/235/)
By the way; the streering wheel is the "JJ LEHTO's" version. #16R has the normal one; what the real #16R wears today, quite nice detailing!... :smokin:

HPI's #16R behind (http://kuvablogi.com/blog/1949/234/), look at that detailing, you really can not ask more.

Compare to this Autobarn #16R (http://kuvablogi.com/blog/1949/188/), even it's an old model; they haven't had all details when they did these models; HPI's detailing is stunning, not by handbuild model!

And before anyone asks about UT 1/18 #16R, the answer is NO. No.

Here is cropped picture of that HPI #12R's streering wheel.
I just can not believe they took it on the model! :smokin:

Hello, I don;t know if this is the right place to post this but thought I would share it.

I got this model when I was very small and lost it a very long time ago. I was cleaning out my basement today and found it. It is by UT models and it is 1/18 scale. The color is the same as XP5 but has a green interior with red seat insert. Does anyone know if there is a real life F1 with this same exterior/interior color combination? Also, the seat belts are painted brown and so is the shift knob???

Thanks,

At one point in its life XP5 had that exact same interior treatment except for the small details on the brown belts and shift knob:

Old news for most of us but I found 10R and 19R waiting for me when I got home the other day. Really love them both! :)

I'll probably be buying #01R in its Presentation livery from IXO next unless someone knows of one coming from HPI already?

Doc will know more, but it's not impossilbe that they wouldn't do that. Just have to be patient. (So do not get that IXO yet.) Atleast Le Mans winner is coming up next month, night version.
Doc gaved me this link, I think here's all updates are quite on time. :)

I don't have any insider info on future HPI GTRs but my gut feeling is that there will be some version of the silver/orange 01R coming, maybe similarly as the 10R, as a shop (Kidbox, Miyazawa, etc.) special. This month there should be coming the first GTR model that isn't the typical Le Mans/Suzuka/JGTC -line, for Miyazawa: 27R Parabolica in Lark colors from the FIA GT 1997 Silverstone 4 hours. So I guess we will be seeing also some other specials later. :)

About the HPI 10R; they did the rear lamps and right door "R" similarly as the car has them currently, not like they were originally in 1996. Small, but a bit annoying mistakes/laziness in research of the details. AutoBarn and Provence Moulage had already years ago those details correct, but had then some other small errors. IXO simply copied the AutoBarn, like they have done with many other GTRs as well. The worst of their copying is the latest 1996 West #1 (GTM084) as they have copied the incorrect engine lid of the AM002 too. AutoBarn corrected this quite visible error for their kits released later, still already around 2007.

So personnally I am not a fan of the IXO's "copy everything" -attitude; I would save the money from buying that IXO 01R and wait a better version, especially as that particular IXO easily costs more than HPI's GTRs today, but isn't even near the quality and details of a HPI GTR.

Also True Scale Miniatures (http://www.tsm-models.com) will be releasing some more GTRs (http://www.tsm-models.com/tsm/store/category/57) this year and probably they will do the first correct F1 LM (XP1LM?) (http://www.tsm-models.com/tsm/store/product/280) diecast in 1:43, or then again just another orange GTR like the others before them.

I'm 100% agree with Doc this IXO thing. More what I look some of my IXO's, more I regret to having them. Just building my plans in the future what I do for them.
HPI is "not rich mans Autobarn" and that's why I really can say, be patient.:lol2:

TSM models is an interesting new manufacturer, I just know what Doc has been writed to me, so let's wait and see. The prices seems to be a bit higher than HPI's, but the quality is a big question mark.

Erik:
Like you saw; HPI's are brilliant even those small errros in #10R; the detailing is amazing, when we look the price tag.
Example; geting one whit shipping cost from Hong Kong to Finland only 50€. That's incredible price, many Minichamps models are double times more expensive, and they really haven't got this kind of detailing at all.

Example; HPI's #19R and #24R have many differences, biggest one is different rearwing. (and of course the lights) Next one is the front pumber and the roof scoop. So really, be patient and see what HPI brings up. :lol2:

Great.

How is the finish and build of HPI versus IXO ?

Peloton25

IXO quality is maybe 75% of HPI from my estimation. I only have a couple of each to judge from. I think HPIs look better than AutoBarn's making them a tremendous bargain in my mind.

The only reason the IXO #01R Test Car appeals to me is that I had a bit of a hand in getting it made by providing photos of the actual car for the modelers to reference. Plus I know where I can get one for less than the standard price for an HPI right now. I hold on a little while and see what happens.

Light years is the difference. The difference is almoust same than night and day.
HPI's detailing is so so so so so so much better, than you really don't want to see any more IXO's after seen one HPI.

Erik:
Ok I understand, but still consider carefully. If we are super lucky, we will see HPI's #01R presentation or pre-qualifying livery someday in the future. I also miss that model in my collection, Autobarn is too much expensive so only cheap would be IXO, but the detailing and finnishing is so poor, that I don't want to spent any money of that. I wait what HPI will do, no mather how long it takes. Atleast then the model is close what #01R was that time. :)

Here are the samples; IXO's #12R Suzuka winner and same car from HPI, the difference is HUGE.
