Can you all please tell me if these (pic below) taillights are street legal in Texas, and what are all of yalls opinions on them.
AND WHAT DO YOU ALL THINK OF THEM? This pic is not my car. Last edited by jeffseby; 02-11-2003 at 09:35 AM. |

I think they are legal if you have the proper bulbs in them, you have to have red bulbs for the taillights/brake lights and it has to reflect amber/red for your turn signals.

error... Andrew actually the law states reflector and the turn signals in the back can be orange or red, but the fronts must be orange.

They're exactly right. As long as you have the right color bulbs, you can't even tell all that much between the stock and clear at night. They seem like they're more for show during the day. My friend had those same ones on his 4-door. He didn't want to spend the $ for the amber bulbs, so he covered them with a purple rubber thing that changes the light to purple. They looked pretty...gay when he first had them on, but after a while they turned into a blue color (must have been something with the rubber stuff heating or something) but they looked phat. Oh yeah back to my point; he got a few tickets for them (it was a nice way of the cops letting him off of a speeding ticket) because they weren't orange or red.:flash: Far Out Man

if they don't have a DOT number they're illegal arent they? and doesn't the reflector on those things reflect white so it looks like you're in reverse when someone's lights hit it? that's what i've heard anyways

At least in California, all signals/lights must be visible from at least 200 feet away. At night it shouldn't be a problem. But I've almost rear ended many people during a sunny day. The usual red/amber plastic reflects the light and magnifies it so it's visible from further away.
From everything I can tell, the police have the right to cite you for them but won't usually do it unless they have another reason to. It seems the same as front tinted windows; no one really cares unless it causes an accident. --Taylor |

Here in CA they hate clear tails, my friend was pulled over 13 times in one month for em.
Another buddy of mines mom was driving his accord one day, and the cop claimed that he pulled her over because his windows were tinted so darkly that the cop couldnt see in to tell if her seatbelt was buckled. He also issued the following tickets ... Modified Exhaust No orange on front of car (he had clears with hiperwhites) and I think some other shit.
