Lower RPMs, New (softer) tires or even slicks, practice staging, he'll get the hang of it eventually.. Practice, Practice, Practice...
He could try a 2 step.. It allows you to set your boost levels at staging then your second set of boost level for the rest of the run.. You may want to look into it.

If you're talking about on a launch, he can modulate the throttle a bit. After slipping the clutch, keep the throttle as far down as you can so the car is on the borderline of traction.
Like Racing Rice said, he can get a remote boost switch. If he has a GReddy boost controller, he can get a remote switch to put on his steering wheel, so as when he launches he can have the car set at a lower psi, so that he can get traction in 1st gear, then hit the button for the higher boost level in 2nd, 3rd, or whenever it is he'll have better traction. Drag radials will help quite a bit, as will of course, racing slicks. As far as losing traction on the street from a roll (say punching it in 2nd gear), if he's serious, he can get a limited-slip diff. say from Quaife, which should help put down the power. It will run him about $1000 though, so unless he really is making a lot of power it's probably not worth it. Practice makes perfect

Oh and also, for launching, he can lower the tire pressure up front for better traction. While he's at it he can raise the rear pressure up to 50+psi (if he's drag racing at a dragstrip. dont do this on the street)

Re: the best ways to launch with a gst
How much would this cost Nick Gst to get that second boost switch. Can you just have that instead of an electronic boost controller. Does this eventually mess up your car?

Trying to launch a stock fwd dsm is a lost cause in my experience, so I'm not going to give much advise on technique. MY experience is with AWDs obviously. But one thing that is absolutely necessary for good FWD launches (and when I say good I mean better than the average mid to low 2's), is a the proper suspension setup. On my buddys old FWD (chad on POSracing) installing AGXs on the rear, and setting them full stiff made a massive improvement even on street tires. Adding some drag radials or slicks, or at least some good sticky street tires, will take advantage of the effect of a stiff rear suspension. But throwing parts on the car is the easy part. The tough part is getting the technique right. After hundred and hundreds of drag passes it becomes second nature, and you can get pretty damn consistent. Every time I line up I'm garanteed a low 1.7 to mid 1.6, with the ocasional 1.5, on street tires. Its al about practice, and repetition (repeating the correct technique)
Not sure if this is what you are looking for, but I hope it helps.

Re: the best ways to launch with a gst
try to find the right rpm to launch at, and the right boost presure. with my experience, i launch at 3300 rpm, and can't have my boost above 14 psi in 1st. any more rpm and i hop, and any more boost and i'll spin the tires after 5500 or so (t-25, not bigger turbo). and listen to 95gsxracer about suspension, and all of us on tires.
the remote switch goes on the steering wheel. on GReddy electronic boost controllers [profec b; b spec 2] there is a lo and hi boost setting, and the remote switches between the 2. the remote itself can't hurt your car, but the boost levels you switch to might http://www.suprastore.com/greddyprofecb.html price may not be comparable, but a good explaination

Re: the best ways to launch with a gst
launch about 3,300 rpm and dont just dump the clutch just let it out but faster than you do durring regular driving also boost dosent have a hole lot to do with launching becasue you do have what is called turbo lag which we all know about and wish we could get totally rid of it which you can help some with large exhaust, bov, intake, header, and also hard intercooler pipe but the 2 stage boost controller may help some becasue once you start to let the clutch out you will see some psi because of the friction between the tires and ground so just try it, launch it easy and make it up in the end
