What's the best way to launch?

I'm kinda new to racing... and i just want some tips so i can get some good runs. My main question is what exactly is the best way to launch? I've seen real racing movies(not referring to F&F), and I notice the cars tend to rev really high before(i'm guessing in N or with clutch engaged?), and then shifting to 1st on green?? This does damage the clutch alot correct? And I was thinking, by revving that high, wouldn't you lose alot of traction with wheelspin? So is this really the best way to launch? How do you guys do it?

First it depends on what type of transmission is in the car.....

and you'd never want to put it in Neutral in a slushbox, rev, then drop it into Drive unless you really hate your transmission and feel that it looks better on the ground, or in separated peices.

I'm a bit lazy to really go in depth, and shall let someone else answer you questions.

well for a manuel all you gotta do is leave it in first then just leave your foot on the clutch then rev to which every rpm is ideal for your car, when its time to go, you just burn your clutch alittle, and leave the throttle on half way, then when your tires finally bite, then you fully let off the clutch, then you just stomp the gas.

Or you could be an allstar like myself and just rev it up to the desired RPM, drop the clutch all the way and feather the gas until the traction kicks in and then go for gold

GTR's are pretty easy to launch.

6,800 rpm side step the clutch and you are gone.

it means to let out the cluth by moving your foot to the side and just letting it pop out as fast as you can. I think.

yes, GT-R's are very easy to launch, the 4 wheel drive system takes care of the traction

Yes side stepping the clutch means just that. sliding your foot off the clutch to one side.

On a side note I know why recently my times at the strip were so bad. The 4wd clutch packs in the transfer case are stuffed. Which means not much front wheel torque is being made. Bugger.

feather as in slowly tapping the gas? heh, wouldn't your engine stall if you engage the clutch too fast that way?

he's referring to what's known in the nhra as "pedaling" the car... once you get the power down and clutch out, you modulate the throttle until you get the traction and then floor it more... if you lose traction, you let off...

That's what I meant precisely, maybe feathering wasn't the right word...I meant just not put the gas to the floor immediately but rather slightly modulate the amount of gas I'm giving the car so as not to have the tires breaking loose. Thanks for the clarification for me flylwsi

no problem... i do what i can...
the drag racing comparo isn't quite accurate, b/c that's what happens when the car breaks traction down the track, but it's the same idea...
