High Mileage + Mod's - Pro's, Con's
Hey all,
I drive a '00 Civic EX stick, and commute about 80 miles a day. Mostly highway travel. I drive fairly aggressive when not stuck in that commute so have been wondering about the effects of certain aftermarket mods vs long car life. Air Intakes - Probably should last the life of the car with proper filter cleaning? Any negative long-term effects of getting more air to the engine? Exhaust - Will non-stock headers, ie: DC 4-1, create more wear on my engine? Catback exhaust systems? I have been unable to find estimated lifetimes for these parts. In other words I don't wanna drop in a new header, just to have to replace it 40,000 miles later. I know these are performance driven designs so long-life may not be an option. Shocks/Springs - Will Eibach springs last? Paired with good shocks, what should i expect for a replacement time period? These are probably the quickest upgrades for minimal performance gains in what I would be looking for. Should a general rule be to buy name brand, quality parts? Just wanted to see if you guys had any input on this stuff. Thanks! |

All those mods will usually last the life of the car. They are not big wear items, so it's nothing you should have to ever replace

My Civic used to commute 1500+ miles per week. With Progress Suspension, Iceman CAI & Apex'i cat-back it has performed awesomely.
Besides the daily drives, it has made several all out trips from Southern CA to Oregon and Vegas. Now with 122k on it, besides regular maintenance, the only item I have to replace is the stock exhaust manifold. Sticking with quality products makes all the difference in the world. |
